how. how can anyone develop a small arm that can't be reverse engineered?

have an explosive charge rigged to the takedown pins that only someone taught the proper protocols can disarm.

Only possible if you use designs reliant on manufacturing techniques that are kept secret. Modern science can analyse the composition of components, but they can't necessarily say exactly how something was made. Unfortunately, unlike high-specification components like jet turbine blades, a firearm can be made with relatively common metal machining knowledge.
Back in the day, just having much better manufacturing and metalurgy was enough to keep a gun safe from copying. like an african tribesman wouldn't be able to reverse engineer a colt navy if he only knew how to make a sword. These days you can't though, because everything Small Arms design has it's basis in already well known principals that are older than your dad or your dad's dad..
besides, unless you make some fucking alien laserplasmarailgat it's irrelevent. their pistol or rifle will perform roughly about the same on paper.

Patents exist for this very reason, anon. As does the DTSA.
Say with something like the XM25, the computer components could have a packet of corrosive jelly attached to a tamper lock (some aircraft avionics systems have something like this), while all the electronics in the projectile would obviously be destroyed in use. That would be p difficult to reverse engineer, considering the top Korean and Chinese scientists copying it (or the XM29) couldn't manage to get the semi auto working (both groups independently settling on bolt action GLs instead) and still have massive issues with the electronics in terms of compactness and reliability.

Digital gun. Microprocessor controlled, electric motor reload, electric priming by encrypted code. Primer is chip too. Without proper codes all components brick.
