In vietnam, the 556 was nicknamed "the meat axe". However reports also came in of it being ineffective in brush and leaf cover.

Vs the 7.62x39 platform, how does the 556 do in terms of damage? Is it more likely, or less likely to kill in one shot?

Hoping for stories, opinions, or pictures from anyone who has experiece deling with combat wounds, or have used these rounds in war.

Never post a pic more interesting than your topic, OP.

just out of curiosity, suppose they refused, what would the americans do, beat them, torture or something?
>>

hes literally washing lice off of his body, not being zapped with a car battery. I cant speak for whatever happened before or after this photo, but it seems the only cruelty being committed in the photo is having to wash in front of a ships worth of people.

All spitzer bullets are ineffective in brush and lead cover. There is no difference in performance between 556, 762x39 or NATO or 30-06.
The only bullets that are stable through foliage are flat nosed, heavy slow movers like 45-70.

What's up with that picture OP?

SCHV rounds (5.56, 5.45 and 5.8) are superior for service rifles.

>During the Vietnam War, the SLR was the standard weapon issued to Australian infantrymen. Many Australian soldiers preferred the larger calibre weapon over the American M16 because they felt that the SLR was more reliable and that they could trust the NATO 7.62 round to kill an enemy soldier outright. The Australians' jungle warfare tactics used in Vietnam were informed by their experience in earlier jungle conflicts (e.g., the Malayan Emergency and the Konfrontasi campaign in Borneo) and were considered far more threatening by their Viet Cong opponents than those employed by U.S. forces. The Australians considered the strengths and limitations of the SLR and its heavy ammunition load to be better suited to their tactical methods.

Nigga you must be retarded. Any person would need to do this before staying on a ship surrounded by those lice-habitable bodies back in those days. It ain't some torture technique unless basic hygiene is some type of punishment.
>>
>>34587877
My grandpa was in vietnam. He did stuff and saw things. He came to the conclusion...."it does the job".

He has also said
>"The AK is a better design but the M16 is still good"
>"The germans were not prepared for jungle warfare" He was not a fan of the G3.
>"I never got close to the nuns, because as long as i had any communications with them...i knew they would be tortured to death by the VC"
>Shotguns arent great for the rice fields, but they really light the jungle up at night."
>>

>Any person would need to do this before staying on a ship

any person would need to be stripped naked and to rub himself while a few dozen of people laugh at him and take pics of him? it's a plain humiliation
>>
also can be considered a sexual abuse with homosexual undertones
>>
>>34588535
Beats being marched to death or beheaded and thrown in a ditch in the jungle.
>>
>>34592109
>i'm a hideous, fat, insecure, self loathing neckbeard and being naked in front of a bunch of people is by far the most terrifying form of torture imaginable
Stop projecting so much

Japs did unfathomable shit to prisoners.

Also you're in the fucking military. You're probably used to other dudes seeing your wang by now

Wanna know the big difference between the "meat-axe" M16 and the later versions with less impressive terminal effects? Barrel twist rate. The original AR-15/Colt Model 601 as used before the DoD fucked up several different things used a 55gr M193 round in a 1:14 twist barrel. That barely stabilized, meaning it had accuracy issues in cold air (stabilization has to do with atmospheric density), but massive yaw and fragmentation on soft targets. The XM16/M16/M16A1 all used a 1:12 barrel, slightly reducing the effects of that unstable bullet, plus adding the well-known clusterfucks of non-chromed internals and a changed powder. Then the A2 changed to a 1:7 to accommodate a new NATO standard (the very long L110/M856 tracer bullet and the 62-grain SS109/M855), which in combination with the switch to 14.5" carbine barrels is a major part of why 5.56mm has been criticized heavily lately.
