Its not a deal breaker. It depends how deep the pitting is. If it's minor it will not affect shooting/precision in any way and can be stopped with proper care.

Tell him to run a bore snake through it then take a pic. I've seen bored that looked rusty and pitted to hell and back get a bore snake run through twice and hive nice frosty/crisp rifling underneath a small coat of rust.

You will have pitting after a few hundred rounds. Its fine no big deal. They are like $1400 Canadian now so if it comes with four magazines muzzle break and bayonet you should buy it for 1000

i also have 3 sks's. I know the vz58, and cz858 are better quality, but is it worth it? i use steel promags when plinking because ive never had an issue at all with them in 5 years. also have an unpinend 30 rounder when innawoods because i live in bum fuck nowhere with no cops around for 2 hours

what causes pitting? is it from not being cleaned or shooting corrosive ammo?

yes, chrome lined barrels are better for this exact reason. plus its much easier to clean with the chrome lining. you dont clean your yugo sks barrel after shooting corrosive ammo in it, youll get pic related after a bit

im sure it can but not nearly as much. and any decent range day like a few hundred rounds and if you leave it for more than a day, itll be a nightmare to clean it, this is why chrome lined barrels are better. except they're less accurate
