In 'Battle: Los Angeles,' do the weapons and tactics used by the aliens make sense realistically?

For those who haven't seen it, 'Battle: Los Angeles' is a sci-fi movie that takes a more realistic approach to the genre. It centers around an alien invasion where the aliens are more or less on par with humans in terms of technology, and utilize similar tactics when it comes to combat.
>>
>can travel through the solar system in relatively stealthy fashion
>proceed to do a costly invasion instead of instantly nuking population centers

stupid as fuck with equally stupid as fuck branch fighting it
>>
>>34571378

No.

It was a totally mediocre film made to recruit dumb spics, niggers and low-social class Whites into the Muhreens.

There's very little thought that went into this movie.

>alien invasion where the aliens are more or less on par with humans in terms of technology

How the fuck did they get here then?

Haven't seen the movie, but I know it's stupid as hell.

Well, for one, if you didn't have an alien species and crude and dumb as us, then there wouldn't really be a movie.

If any of the stories about the current extra-terrestrial phenomenon are to be believed, they are light years ahead of us, to the point where real ET technology appears like magic to us.

They snatch people in their beds, phase them through walls and solid objects into silent craft, and more terrifying - they are able to switch our nervous system on and off like a simple circuit.
>>
>>34571411

>How the fuck did they get here then?

Probably slow space travel. They may have been in space for millennia in some sort of low energy state or hibernation. They probably discovered earth much in the same way we discover exo-planets. The invasion was probably a shot in the dark for them. They may not even have known if earth was inhabited until they were close to us. They're weapons are probably built around a philosophy that focuses on being a 'jack of all trades, master of none' in order to compensate for the unknowns they might encounter upon trying to colonize the planet.

>american understanding of war
what's the point of nuking stuff you're invading? How are you going to use the stuff you just fucking nuked?
>>
>>34571403
Perfectly described.
>>
>>34571445
Some of the stories, If they are to be believed, are horrifying. I remember reading about this on case in the Soviet Union on this one mountain. The mountain has a name that means death or despair or something like it.
Definitely too advanced to fight.
>>
I liked it.

It wasn't as obviously predictable as independence day.

The aliens are retarded on purpose to give humans a fighting chance, but it actually made the firefights more interesting, since they were toe to toe.
>>
>>34571455
>How are you going to use the stuff you just fucking nuked?

I'm sorry but I was under the impression the aliens only wanted fucking water and not live in the cities meant for humies
>>
>>34571455
They just wanted the water IIRC.

literally impossible when they reached the earth while we barely could send a man to the moon

They have super advanced drones that can instantly detect and triangulate any radio signal to the centimeter. Which then give up the advantage of flight to close to 2 meters and fire ineffectually nowhere near the radio signal while hovering stably so as to collect opposing fire without even attempting to evade.

They have extremely powerful, physically capable, dual-organed, nearly unkillable soldiers with all manner of horrifyingly powerful weapons integrated into their biology. Who also close to 2 meters and fire indiscriminately nowhere near their targets as though their weapons and their sensors are in no way linked.

They have comically underpowered walking turrets. Which... they also close to 2 meters before firing and then die one after another attempting to fix the damaged, useless, ineffectual machine in the open instead of abandoning it to take cover and return fire.

They have methods of collecting and storing energy sufficient to cross the unfathomable vastness of space. But instead of using that power from orbit in the form of surgical energy weapon strikes at appropriate military and infrastructure targets, they send the previously described forces to the surface by the millions. Forces which presumably required valuable resources to grow, construct, train, fuel and feed.

tl;dr nah
>>

Came here to say this except it's corps, retard.

Literally felt like Marine advisers wrote the script while jerking off the entire time, with the Air Force providing money because of course, hence the token "badass Air Force chick". Every other fucking line was some
>That's what it means to be a Marine!!!1!!1
>>
>>34571490
>what is an Orion drive? What is a fusion drive?
The former we can do and the latter isn't that much more advanced it just requires fusion reactors which we don't have yet but again isn't that advanced. It's not FTL and it's not nanobot swarms.

>Space gating civilisation with the technological means of Interstellar space flight
>Needing to invade a planet for water
Yeah, no. There's plenty of far, far easier ways to get water. The only resource on Earth of any interest to a species capable of Interstellar flight, are the unique lifeforms that inhabit it.

They always get that wrong in alien invasion films.
>>

blah blah blah there is that project and that project etc

where is a single actually built engine capable to deliver a man to the fucking mars, leaving aside capable of an interstellar travel

If their tech is on par with ours, they can only acquire general characteristics of our planet from their home world. They may have been faced with extinction and a huge gamble may have been their best bet for survival. A change of course while in route may not have been feasible, making it an all or nothing situation.
>>
>>34571411
>alien invasion where the aliens are more or less on par with humans in terms of technology
>How the fuck did they get here then?
They walked across the border.
>>
>>34571611

There are likely far closer planets with the capacity to terraform. We ourselves theoretically have the technology to do so as well.

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to actually find a planet from another star?
>>
>>34571489

That is a fucking retarded premise for a movie.

>Lets invade a planet for water
>comets
>>
>>34571570
I did not know that, that makes sense. Most normies don't seem to realise that old the elements in earth are also found elsewhere, they'd have to come past the asteroid belt to get to Earth, why would they?
>>
>>34571487
>>34571489
>>34571548
>>34571641

For what it's worth, we actually don't know what the aliens are after. Yes, it's implied that they are there for the water, but this conclusion is really only speculation on the part of the characters. They may have had other reasons for invading.
>>

>>34571616

Terraforming with tech at our level would take hundreds. if not thousands of years. The existential threat the aliens faced may not have given them enough time to terraform a nearby planet. You also need a planet that is suitable for terraforming.

you can get water and also lots of other materials without the hassle of invading a populated planet. for example, europa (moon of jupiter) has more water than the earth, and has no humes to defend it.

these guys wanted slaves, and a new colony.
>>
>>34571378
The movie makes a teeensy bit of sense in context- That is, the aliens in question aren't a military, they're a lightly armed exploratory fleet, that's made up of what are obviously drones that have their tech grafted onto their bodies (!), which implies an inhuman disposability. These guys aren't actually gonna fuck earth up or take anything, because the movie is the muhreeens fighting a single scout unit basically. All these augmented bug-freaks are the tip of the first wave of disposable chaff ready to die for their alien emperor or whatever, and we don't see that because it didn't do well enough for a sequel.

TL;DR the aliums need our water and will come back with bigger guns cause they know it's here

Shit they probably don't even use the same guage.

>>34571378
If you want to know how ayy would fight, what weapons they have available, read this:
http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/spacegunconvent.php
It's a site dedicated to scientifically accurate science fiction writing, for "people" who sperg out when their carefully thought out, bureaucratic, boring-ass intergalactic trade commonwealth breaks the laws of physics.
It's stunning what's possible. If it wasn't for treaties we'd likely have some of the stuff on there right now, like Casaba Howitzers, nuclear-bomb-powered turbo xray lasers.
But the bottom line is raw energy. If you can accelerate a fistul of sand to 0.7c you can wipe out life on Earth. FTL travel, apart from having to exist outside time, would mean infinite energy production. So, leaving aside the fact it can't be done, if you can do it you can use infinite energy to create infinite matter, reverse entropy itself, prevent the cosmic expansion or just end the universe.
But any spaceship travelling at an appreciable fraction of c (~0.1) is de facto a more obscenely powerful weapon than anything we have built.

Let's say thousands of years. Terraforming Mars would still be way faster than travelling to our nearest star at our level of technology.

>>34571668

We're in a dark patch of sky relative to surrounding stars. And sure, you could make the argument that they just pointed in a random direction and decided to head to this planet, working out that there's a good chance the planet is in a habitable zone, maybe they'd terraform if they needed, it has the basic elements they need as far as they can tell with spectroscopy.

There were probably way closer planets.
>>
>>34573885
>But any spaceship travelling at an appreciable fraction of c (~0.1) is de facto a more obscenely powerful weapon than anything we have built.

This. It boggles my mind how everybody just glosses over how massive even a tenth of light speed is. Any species that can do this is so vastly superior to us, their technology would straight up be considered magic to us. They could pose as believable gods. And while you can kick up a stink about it just being science we don't understand, if they wanted us to worship them as deities, there is nothing we can do to resist.
