I thought wire saws were universally considered trash. Why would the air force include it in a survival bag?

It's small, concealable, and better than nothing.
staving alive until rescue is not the same as needing to chop a bunch of wood in the bush methinks.

>wire saws are trash
>airforce
I don't see your point.

It beats chewing in small trees to cut them down. Don't know how much butter to it would be than a pilots survival knife

Folding saw would be better no? It wouldnt take up to much space.
>supply pilot with nothing but tin snips and duct tape
>teach him to fashion wreckage into the tools he needs
supply a man with tools, and he'll fight for a day
teach a man to make tools and you'll find him 30 years later on an island not knowing the war ended
idk man you can cut flex ties and other lightweight shit with just 550 cord. who knows what you could do with a wire

could be used as traps for catching small animals.

>air force
muh weight saving

It's trash compared to a chainsaw, but amazing compared to hands and teeth.
>Modern wire saw:
Made in China
Made out of inferior quality materials
Sold on BUDK.com to LARPers
Mall ninja trash
>1960's wire saw:
Official U.S. Air force issued tool
American, Japanese or European made
Better than nothing when lost innajungle
Extended use is not desirable

it doubles as a snare

Or a garrote
Some wire-saws aren't bad, and are surprisingly good
"alertness tablets"

I would have mentioned it but the one in the picture is tiny. If it's in a USAF survival bag they probably expected a user to be in BFE or to avoid to everything.

It would still take up more space than a wire saw.
