If pic related were still around, would the F-35 have been such a fiasco and what would it have looked like/been capable of?
>>
It would have been fully in service over 10 years ago, been three separate planes from the get go, would have been mach 2+ capable, and been actually capable of respectable BFM relative to current aircraft.
>>
>>34555487
This, Johnsons successfully pumped out a dozen record breaking aircraft based on bleeding edge technology, many of which still have not been surpassed today in the span of time it's taken for the JSF program to produce anything even marginally capable.

Lockheed Martin should be fucking embarrassed with themselves.
>>
>>34555415
How is the F35 a fiasco? Its more of a misrepresentation of the budget of the program, than a bad aircraft.

The last chapter of this book is basically a warning of what would go wrong

>excessive bureaucracy
>regulations intended to prevent cost-overruns drive up project cost by adding red tape
>having every piece of the project be classified adds another, enormous layer of paperwork
>>
>>34556178
Eleventy bazillion dollars in constant cost overruns, terminally protracted development, and an aircraft literally worse at all the jobs than the aircraft it's meant to replace in both critical performance envelopes and capability.

>a bad aircraft.
It could be a p.gud aircraft, that doesn't mean the program isn't a huge fucking fiasco that has cost american tax payers far more than it should have for what they are getting.

A continued modernization/procurement of the F-16, F-18, and A-10 fleets would have ended us up with pretty much the same air power capabilities.

Abandon STOVL aircraft entirely and take fixed wing away from the marines entirely. Kill the Harrier and give them more Zulu Cobras for their CAS role.
>>
>>34556178
Literally half a trillion dollars and decades later we still don't have a fleet of fully operational aircraft in a time when the U.S. has an enormous debt obligation.

And we get an aircraft with some wizbang features that is overweight, maneuverable, and doesn't really do anything an F-16/F-18 can't also do for less money.
>>
>>34556369
>maneuverable
unmaneuverable
>>
>>34556178
>Sell a plane based on the idea that it's really three planes in one with a shared development budget so it will be cheap!
>Oh, sorry. Turns out we're not that smart, it's actually going to be three nearly completely different planes that look similar each with it's own huge development cost.
>My bad. It's actually going to cost more than if you had just developed three different aircraft to fill each of those three different roles
>Here it is! Look how good it is! Please ignore the fact that it isn't faster, can't carry more stores, doesn't have a longer range, cant out-maneuver, and isn't as effective as the planes it's meant to replace.
>BUT IT HAS NEATO SCREENS AND HELMETS AND STUFF!
>Oh wait, you're fitting those to your older aircraft too? Nevermind.
>>
>>34555415
All these summerfaggots don't even know who he is. You're wasting your time.

We'd have SSTO-capable hypersonic fighter jets by now.

Each variant shares a lot of parts with each other.

>costs more than if you developed three seperate aircraft
Oh, you're retarded.

Almost everyone in this thread is retarded, I just come here to see if that JSF_Turkey_Lemon.JPG guy is here, he's on a mission to convince the autists of the web that the F35 is a waste
>>
>>34556963
>Each variant shares a lot of parts with each other.
>supposed to be majority cross compatible >76%
>Ends up being less than 20% cross compatible

Sounds like you're the only retard here.

You could probably say that the F110 equipped F16 and the F-15 were somewhat close in terms of parts cross-compatibility based on the engine's alone.
>>
>>34557010
but it was a waste.

Despite any wizz bang features. the massive amount of money spent on the project does not justify whatever small additional capabilities it may provide. Capabilities that are not applicable to any current or foreseeable conflict.
>>
Why they didn't just go multirole with the F-22 I will never understand.

Instead we got a handfull of F-22's that will never fully take air superiority from the F-15's. And we got a shit load of these turkeys on order that don't do anything we can't do with a 16 or 18.

Should ahve just kept the f-16/18 indefinitly and gave the F-22 the ability to shoot HARMs

You might as well cite Sparky and go all in on the battlebox.

Fucking this.

Johnson was a man out of time. Everything that he did was nothing short of remarkable. There is just so much he did right, I can't even begin to create a list that would do this legend a fair tribute.
>>
>>34557950
No expert and different anon but I'd assume semi-compatible where unique parts are completely incompatible.

Like this but with a slightly smoother profile.

> Unobtainium lighweight body.
> Ayylmao-tier weapons systems
> Called the F-69 Thunderskunk.
