So how effective are bombing runs against dug in infantry? Say you got a poorly armed pure infantry force with no armor or anti-air but they are hidden in extremely dense jungle and have intensive tunnel and cave complex to hide in over a fairly large area. Let's say we can't send in boots on the ground for whatever reason but we can conduct a no hold barred carpet bombing campaign for however long it took to flush them out. How effective would it be compared to actually sending our army there to flush them out on the ground?

>carpet bombing
I thought that most modern powers used precision strikes from either fighter jets/drones or missiles launched from ships.

Well the battlefield is extremely dense jungle and without boots on the ground, there's no way to get accurate data for precision strikes on a bunch of tunnel complexes. Not to mention that if you have to wipe out an entire army using air power alone, carpet bombing is the way to go.

Depends on the bomb faggot

even extremely dense jungle can be penetrated by FLIR from drones. that said, even dumb WW2 bombing would be extremely effective if efficiency is measured by not loosing grunts to traps and shit. the price of carpet bombing is a different matter but then again you said no hold barred so amybe it's an opportunity to use up all those chemical weapons in storage....

plowing the jungle with constant bomb runs is good if you want to claim a high made up bodycount or need fancy shots for TV, terrible at actually cutting any supply lines.
it is just too easy for them to shift and hide under the quickly regrowing canopy.

and jungles are HUGE, country-size huge.
even the most intense air delivered treatment can't possibly clear every nook and cranny.
we have/had the largest air force in the world by a long shot and were still desperate enough to use archaic chemical shit like Agent Orange, and even that did fuck all in the long run.

that being said sending a gorillion of your grunts into the thick could get the job done as long as you don't care that half of them won't come back.
the fun of constant traps, ambushes, friendly fire, diseases and difficult terrain combined with no support from ground vehicles.
a nightmare for standing armies, much easier to patrol as many entry and exit points as possible, while pounding makeshift camps that you can spot from the air, and hope they starve to death.

nowadays jungle supply lines are mostly done by drug cartels anyway, and police forces usually don't have spare bombers laying around.

tl;dr drop a couple of nukes

A hundred thousand sorties flown and you guys still lost?
>>
>>34556089
A million sorties won't help if you're not allowed to bomb across the border to NV
>>
>>34555059
Couldn't you just use fire bombs? Dresdening a jungle would remove most anything there.

They used carpet bombing on retreating Iraqi forces during Desert Storm.
