Why the ak-47 specifically?

I find it odd that in most gun stores near me that sells used stuff there's some sort of leftie durr rifle in 7mm rem mag or 300 wm. Even saw a newer Mauser once.
Savage is really good at having left handed models of most of their rifles. Ruger and CZ are alright too.

How much better in terms of actual performance is CZ vs Savage? I've been very happy with savage but I'm curious about CZs. Not sure if the price difference is justified though. Especially in their rimfire line.
