Why did the A3 Nimbus have such a short service span? its fucking beautiful and so sleek, nothing else flew or handled quite like it. Who's retarded fucking idea was it to retire it after 4 FUCKING YEARS of active service for the infinitely more shit TIE/LN?
>>34521339
Had tons of software bugs, couldnt land properly unless on a perfect surface, was a pain in the ass for maintanance crews, oxygen system broke down, was way over budget and late
Do I need to continue?
>>34521339
It wasnt more shit, the TIE system was a maintenance dream, was as fast as an Xwing designed years later, and had superior sensors.
V-wing was a solution to a problem that didnt really exist.
>>34521339
>4 years
The V-wing predated the TIE by over 10 years
>>34521339
>Totally not a subjective observation/conclusion
Because it was the prototype of a prototype, friend. Technically/objectively speaking, the TIE/LN is superior to it in every regard short of shields and possibly a hyperdrive which was added to other TIE models.

The V-wing was the beginning of the TIE system. Lucas was originally going to add TIEs instead of V-wings but he was like "Duuuhhh, wait a minute, we still got 19 years before that was the standard." It utilized an early setup of the TIE, that's why it made a similar noise in flight.

I figured the V-wing sound was just deliberate foreshadowing.
That said, TIE Hunter is patrician taste.
The TIEs didnt need hyperdrive for the same reason F-18s dont have B-52 fuel range; when your mothership has hyperdrive theres no point in you having it. Thats what i think a lot of people forget, the Rebels needed hyperdrive on everything because it facilitates surprise attacks and rapid egress. TIEs dont need it because the mothership carrier takes them to the action.

>TIE Hunter is patrician taste
My dude.
Good points too.

Between that and the ARC-170 program, the Republic Navy was bleeding credits, and the emperor decided it wasn't worth the headache
Really, /k/?
Why did your face have such a short service life?
>>34521389
>no mention of the internal compensator issues that caused gloc
The thing was a great astroid dart because of that, and this is the real reason it was pushed out of service. It would've been a lot sooner if the republic had been able to run a decent replacement program that actually hit its deadlines and budget targets. No bid contracts thanks to spice and twi-lek hookers what a fucking joke.
