Why shouldn't I pick up a Polish mak for daily CC use this weekend for $220.00?
>>
>>34513979
You should.

/thread
>>
You should. Awesome pistol. Great for CC, love the loaded chamber indicator too. Only drawbacks are that it's a bit heavy and only has 7+1, but that's fine by me.
>>
>>34513979
>it's a makarov because it's in 9x18

fuck off, you're like the guy at work that calls his Glock 31 "my SIG"

Also no, unless you're really poor. They're large and heavy for what they are and the trigger is horrible.
>>
>>34513979

have you tried the trigger?
>>
It's good, just put in the wolff springs and you are set.
>>
>>34513979
>>34514048
The p64 radom was my first experience with a shit trigger, replace it.
I hate the grips too, replace it.
Aside from that its a good gun for its price.
Make sure to boil it whatever you have on hand for /k/'s amusement.
>>
Its not drop safe. Get an lcp if you want something small.
>>
>>34514201
>Its not drop safe
Good thing OP didn't ask in /lgbt/, as a man I'll field this question OP, fucking buy it and carry it, consider doing a wolf spring kit swap though
>>
>>34514007
>>34514018
Confirmed never having owned one
>>
>>34514217
Yeah real men never drop anything lol
>>
>>34514201
Geezis, the main complaint about the P64 being its "shitty trigger" (which is unwarranted, by the way, first round trigger pull is just VERY heavy; the trigger is sweet after that) why in the HELL would anyone recommend and LCP? That's truly the worst trigger God ever allowed man to bring into existence. Heavy, crunchy, long, uneven, and shitty to the extreme. Stick with the P64, anon, it's worth every bit of two bills and then some.
>>
>>34514028
I'll be honest be I have no clue what the hell you're having a fit about.
Explain.
>>
>>34514201
OP here. Already have an LCP and love it. Not too worried about the drop safety as I don't drop guns

Also the LCP's trigger is fine
>>
>>34514245
The P64 is not a Makarov. It's just another 9x18 slav service people call "Makarov" because they're chambered in 9x18, like the PA-63 and P-83 Wanad. It's like calling the Glock 37 (chambered in .357 SIG) a "SIG" because the cartridge is the same.
>>
>>34514217
Thanks m8. Pretty sure I will.
Any good IWB holster recommendations for these?
>>
>>34514282
Why the fuck would you buy this piece of slavshit for carry then? You literally have a modern version of the same stupid thing that weighs half as much.
>>
>>34514282
No it isn't. Look again. Guaranteed you have an LCP Custom (red skeletonized trigger) or an LCP2. Ruger did not produce one single original LCP with a trigger that a moderately trainable orangutan would find to be acceptable.
>>
>>34514298
Because I like slavshit and have never heard anything substantially bad about these.
Also because I collect guns and think they are neat. As long as I can get some legitimate use out of it I'll be able to justify the purchase.
>>
>>34513979
>for daily CC use
There are smaller and lighter guns with better ammo capacity. It's a good gun though, you could definitely do it.
>>
>>34514333
You won't. I have a Makarov and adore it. I sold that piece of shit 64 for what I had in it after 2 outings. It's fucking terrible unless you have the hands of a 12 year old girl and spend money on springs.

I tried to like it. They are shit.
>>
>>34513979
>no firing pin block
>retarded trigger pull
>kicks like a mule
>not at all fun to shoot
>destroys your hand web
>shit capacity and weight for its size

this is coming from someone who owns one, and yes I did replace the springs

do you wanna buy mine OP?

>>34514311
Yeah nah cunt. I just don't have bitch hands

>>34514367
What's so bad about it other than the lack of dickgrips?
>>
>>34514641
I can understand the capacity, weight, and firing pin block complaints. The rest is a bit subjective opinion I think as I typically don't mind harsh recoil and handling as I'm pretty used to guns like that.
Thank you for the insight though
>>
>>34514705
The grips are horrific. It bites your hand. It holds no ammo. It's not drop safe as others have said. It's too heavy for a carry compared to say, your lcp.

They are just cheap shitty guns. If you want a 9x18 to "carry" until you realize they suck, at least get a mak.
>>
>>34513979
There's a reason those are so cheap
>>
>>34514773
It's not harsh. It just hits you in a shitty place. There is a reason the poles went to the 83 and rubber grips.

It's okay op. I told myself all of these things too. Bought one. Sold it.
>>
>>34514705

Not that guy, but the main problem is that the DA trigger pull is like 30+ pounds. This is apparently because the Poles wanted to use ammo with retardedly hard primers and figured a super-heavy mainspring (and the resulting heavy hammer strike/trigger pull) would do the trick.
>>
>>34514641
>not at all fun to shoot

let's go a step further from people who know what they are like and put it this way.

>it is a chore to shoot and will hurt your hands unlike 95% of pistols.

get a shield retard, the ammo is something you can find.
>>
>>34513979
because you should get a cugir tok for the same price and not have to deal with a hand nugget tier trigger pull
>>
>>34514781
>>34514785
>>34514794
>>34514811
Gotcha. Well thank you guys for shining a light on these for me. Kinda bummed out now though.
>>
>>34513979
If you want something that has the same looks and price range, check around for surplus cz82/83s.

>>34514831
Buy one of the bulgy maks that sog or classic has for sale if you want to get your slav on. They are nice pieces. Miles ahead of the 64.
>>
Pros:
It looks like a Slavic PP, but shoots a better round.
The DA trigger pull is easily rectified with new springs.

Cons:
It's bigger and heavier than it looks.
It is no fucking fun To shoot, whatsoever.

It's up to you, OP. Plenty of collectors have guns they rarely shoot. This will be one of them. If you don't already have a proper Makarov, I'd recommend getting one instead. They aren't as pretty, but they're a joy to shoot, and you get two extra rounds as a bonus.
>>
>>34514831

Wolff makes a spring kit specifically to tune down that ridiculous pull by about 10 pounds, not a great DA pull but much lighter. It's like ten bucks.

Can't say it'll help with the felt recoil though.
>>
>>34514866
i really want one of these. did yours come with the holster wear (or whatever wear is forward/above trigger), or is it from you?
>>
>>34514821
>Get a shield

How bout no. But I've been convinced to not buy the p64 though

It has a tiny bit of bluing wear on the muzzle but not much. Mine came that way, but I bought it from someone else. Classic claims theirs are unissued. See if this pic helps. It may be light reflecting.

Fucking how? The safety imobilizes the firing pin when it's in the "safe" position.
>>
>>34515130
i like your taste in peices anon, reminds me that i still want a hi power as well.
>>
>>34515257
Thanks friendo. I am the op in revolver general too, hopefully I'll be adding a 19-3 to the collection
>>
>>34515217
the drop safety concerns are discussed pretty nicely here, something i have never heard since i too just started looking into these guns again since...this thread.

>>
>>34515299
They may not have had a firing pin block or hammer block when they were originally designed but they had them by at least 1970 because mine has both.
>>
>>34515330
good to know, thanks.
>>
should i pick up a arsenal bulgy makarov in .380?
there is a local one for sale for 225 with holster and 2 spare mags.

im asking if he wants 200 cash, kinda feel myself like asshole for lower that price
>>
>>34515518
>Arsenal

Doubt.jpg
>>
>>34514018
It's 6+1
>>
>>34515518
Clearly someone did a .380 conversion on it. The only mak to come from the factory was a small batch of those commercial Russian baikal maks
>>
>>34513979
The firing pin rests on the chambered bullet. So if you carry it chambered and drop it it has a chance to go off, even if saftey is on.
>>
>>34513979
No.

You know why they're still so cheap and available?

It's because nobody likes them. Low capacity, terrible grip, too snappy for its cartridge, and terrible DA trigger pull.

Also, someone people have said their firing pins can break from dry firing.
>>
>>34513979
200lb DA pull
sharper recoil than you'd think for the smallish cartridge
sights that are so small they're almost invisible.
But, its fine otherwise. Would probably carry condition 3 and rack the slide if I was carrying it.
>>
>>34513979
Get it, still parts out there, pick up both the recoil and hammer spring kits, its worth it. you can set it up to your liking and ammo. I ended up running with 20 recoil and 18 hammer. Im more accurate with it than a LCP, Prvi Partizan ammo can suck in them. It's not my $2k 1911 but it has a place.

I bought mine today and really like it.

No plastic, DA/SA, and Cold War history.
>>
Heavy and way too big for what little you're carrying.

I tried doing this with an actual PPK (has about the same specs). I was a 25 year old dumbass and that weight gets you pretty quick. Do not recommend.

But pick one up, they're neat.

>>

Although it has tons of flaws its accurate and its a "decent" gun.
>>
>>34518145
Now enough about the 1911.
>>
>>34518064
True. I've heard the p-64 has a worse trigger. And obviously they're different guns.

But they're both 9x18 so I figured close enough.

Will my P83 fit in a Russian mak holster?

Commercial mak in .380.

Neat addition to a collection, but not something I'd grab otherwise.

>>34519903
planning changing recoil spring and trigger spring anyway. Would it make 380 maka a good shooter? Thanks
>>
>>34514185
Single action is stellar, the double action is terrible. Replacing the springs to make a good double action will compromise the single action, so it's your choice to either keep the safety on and get one good shot followed by a malfunctioning gun, or keep that safety in between fire and safe so that the hammer can be cocked back (effectively carrying it cocked and locked) and then you have 6 single action shots ready to go

t took me about two months to decide on what my second handgun would be. I read, watched reviews online, and read more about this gun and a couple others. This gun met most of the criteria I was looking for (reliable, affordable, concealable and easy to clean/maintain), and, I now own a piece of history that's no longer manufactured and it will probably only increase in value. The only criteria of it didn't meet was that it's not made in the US or chambered in 9mm Luger.
Cosmetically this gun looks excellent! I think they may have even cleaned it ahead of time? I was expecting it to be covered in cosmoline and it wasn't at all. I field stripped it. I took the black grip off that came on it. Then, I cleaned and reassembled it with the bakelite grip. It doesn't appear it was used or fired but then again I'm not an expert.
The bakelite grip once cleaned didn't look as good as I thought but then again my particular Mak was made in 1987. It looked pretty shiny with a dab of gun oil rubbed in though.
I haven't shot it yet but I'm pretty excited to do so. There's some cool holsters for it too if you type in spetsnaz makarov holster online search engines.
