So... Hello, /k/.

I'm looking into my babbys first gun.

I'm looking for a good, solid pistol. Maybe grab a CMP M1 around jan. next year.

But for now? Looking at getting pic related, a Hi Point .45 with a 4.5" Barrel, 9 Round mag, Polymer Frame.

I understand it's a cheap gun.
I understand it's not perfect.
I'm not expecting it to be.
I'm expecting it to be my first gun, and I hear it's darn near bullet-proof.

But before I do, I thought I'd walk into the hallowed halls of Innawoods, and get the raving autis... I mean experts.

I got one of the hundred dollar bill print hi points as a bday gift. First round I attempted to chamber hung up on the feed ramps, occasional failure to fire, have developed the habit of looking at the ejection port after ever round to see if its in battery or if I'm going to die to an out of battery fire.
>>
>>34507719
Do you have a higher quality image, anon? Can't read this one.
>>
>>34507667
I owned a JHP45, they're solid and fun to shoot. Look up the Joey Key chain trigger, and thingmeister Wood grips and 1911 magazine catch. Awesome upgrades.
>>
>>34507837
Download the image or open it in a new tab. It's full quality - there's just a limit on the size that embedded images will display even when expanded.

Anyways, to address your initial question - if you feel like you need a gun *now* the hi-point is fine.

I know linking to demolition ranch makes me a huge faggot, but he does a pretty thorough review to show that they are, in-fact, bulletproof.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpZdUgBzh7Y

It's not really the best *first* gun. It's more of a good second or third gun when you want something to keep in your truck or your boat or whatever.

Yeah OP it's not great obviously but it's better than nothing and at least it's not a grenade.

Not a big deal if you're planning to upgrade soon and get a good gun to practice with. The only thing is you want to make sure you don't develop shitty habits from shooting it too much. After you get a nicer gun just relegate it to truck gun or something. Good on you for getting to hasguns though, have fun.
>>
Does your LGS actually have one in stock? Because for the cost of paying for FFL transfer, shipping, etc - you may be able to pick up something local in the same price range that won't be quite as mediocre.

Why does /k/ hate demolition ranch?

I mean he's pretty lolrandumb but he seems like he's having a lot of fun
>>
>>34507968
I'm still in the planning stages, I'm afraid. I'm on the road allot, but I'm getting plans drawn up. Going home soon, going to get the ball rolling, at the very least.

I will say, one of the things that convinced me was ANTIFA's retarded literal terrorist asses, and another was remembering about a fellow trucker in my company that got killed in a case of mistaken identity about a year back...
>>
>>34508039
I don't hate him, just his vlogs.
>>
>>34508039
There's nothing wrong with him per se; rather, it's an over-simplified channel that focuses more on providing entertainment value to noguns compared to the more content-rich channels.

Seeing how OP is a noguns, though, it may be appropriate here.

Yeah, I found him a bit too "hey Bro, watch me shotgun this power milk(tm)! WOOOOOO!!!1!", but you have to admit, he has a point. At least in the one video I saw of his.

And since I don't see myself affording anything from Forgotten Weapons (except MAYBE one of those .22 auto pistols...)....

>>34507667

I know they're supposed to be reliable guns but I've had issues feeding the one 9mm I've gotten to use. It feeds brass case flawlessly but cheaper steel cases it wont accept at all which is kind of what you probably want to be shooting. Also, I couldn't get a torso sized group with it at 20 yards nor could the owner of several years or his brother who are usually good shots and have no issue doing so even with compacts. It kind of felt like shit in your hand too and feels very lacking for the size. It could just be the one gun but it turned me off from them even if they do eat brass fine I want a gun that I can get good at and know it's me not the gun when I miss.

Also why 45? It's expensive to feed $15 for 50 versus $8 for 50. If you're poor I still really would suggest saving for a nicer gun. The hipoint is great if you just want something to kill a bad guy or buy it used as a throw away gun but it's really bad for a hobbyist.

A p22 would be worlds better to cheaply gain skill. It's your money though OP, I'm just giving you what I experienced with one of them and would hate to find out you got turned off from the sport because of costs or never getting good. It still might be just the one gun I used, some are lemons.

What the fuck is going on here? Most of those prices listed are wildly inaccurate.
>>
>>34511103
Did you just volunteer to update the .jpg?
>>
I'd have no problem with the Hi-Point. It's big and perhaps short on ergonomics and capacity, but the same could be said of most any 1911. It'll work fine and not set your budget back by much.
>>
>>34511103

Those are all within 50$ currently in my state, the RIA is about spot on. Before taxes that is.

Save up an extra 100-150 and get something better. To me, the stigma of being a hi-point owner is motivation enough to spare the extra cash.

How set are you on going the 45 route?

I miss Röhm.

>>34507667
I mean.... I really don't get why people want handguns as first guns. But $125 for an automatic is the best deal I've ever found for a handgun so I'll just have to say... Go for it.

He shot a Hi Point in the breach with another gun and it kept firing fine.

I never got the Hi Point hate anyway. I mean yeah they're a brick but it slings lead reliably for $140

>>34511572
Gotta disagree about the trigger and the fussy about ammo allegations. That hasn't been my experience at all. Mine rides in my tool box, it's a construction site gun I guess, several of us use it now and then when the need arises. We've used it to shoot holes in drums for burn barrels, scare off black bear and pit bulls, and have on hand in the event of the generally unexpected since carrying on your person while doing construction work is a pain in the ass, and we like a gun we can throw in with the drills and hammers and not care if it gets a scuff. We've used whatever the flavor of the day crap ammo we could find, and never had a jam. Not once in many hundreds of rounds, which is frankly pretty fucking awesome. If you're not just criticizing a gun that you don't even shoot, my suggestion would be to have your mag feed lips checked.

As for the trigger, what do you see wrong with it? It's plenty functional, maybe a tad long and a tad heavy, but not problematic. But hell, we use lots of equipment with triggers that require a little more pressure than some armchair /k/omrade might use to feather his boyfriend's prostate, so maybe we're just used to being men and we don't whine about anything over a 2.5 lb trigger pull.

You want a gun with a shitty trigger, Ruger makes plenty of them. You want a gun that is a primadonna about what ammo it will eat, you can find a lot of those too, including my Sig and Glock which I otherwise love. You want a gun that's a little more of a tool than a heirloom or tactical plaything, that shoots fine and you can throw in the toolbox and hose down with CLP maybe once a year, Hi-Point is plenty acceptable.

Get a Tec 9.
Built like a tank, very reliable and you can put an stock and make it an SMG.
>>
>>34513750
I have the 9mm carbine. A little embarrassed to admit it, but it's my favorite gun to shoot. Can't comment on the pistols other than to say they are fucking ugly. Can't beat the warranty, though...guaranteed for life. Send it back (pay shipping) and they fix it and send you an extra mag for your trouble.
>>
Wat, noguns spotted.
>>
>>34511897
Fairly set, although I'm willing to go smaller. If my local shops don't have a .45 that's cheap...er. I'm not buying a FN, for example.

>>34513073
I want to, but the cheapest currently available is the M1c and d, and the cheapest is $800. Can't swing that quite yet.

I have the m88a, which is functionally identical. I've never had a malfunction on it and it's fine for what it is. Mine ended up shooting a little low so I needed to file down the front sight a bit. It is a little heavy for prolonged shooting though.
