Just watched the Macintosh 1000 round test of the famous Sig Sauer P320
I have a question, what on earth happened with the barrel? I have attached an screenshot of Mac pointing to these mystic brown surface blemishes. Mac said it was rust but what else could it be? Hope you're having a great day.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RyHpxjiXsc
>>
>>34501889
It's rust. SIGs are just pure trash.
>>
>>34501898
It takes trash to know trash
>>
That looks more like fouling and heat on top of the areas where the bluing has been worn away. This is actually pretty typical with pistols like this because the barrel rubs the slide as it's blown back. I have the beginnings of that silver ring on some of my glocks.
>>
>>34501900
Glad you admit SIG is shit.
>>
That looks an awful lot like rust to me, and I've lived on the coast my whole life so I've seen some rust.
>>
>>34501925
I guess if it doesn't affect the inside of the barrel it's not a huge concern then

Saying this when the P226/228/229 never shows this under similar conditions, or the Beretta 92 or the Glock brand Glawk.

Rob Cohen Sig-Sauer QC is not anything like Sig-Sauer's autizmo levels of QC in days past.

I've put over 2000 rounds in my glock. My barrel is still in prestine condition. Sig is shit. Traded all mine to Fudds for cash.
>>
>>34502633
You've probably never overheated your Glock though, like in the torture test

>>
>>34502999
And I don't think you'll see many trying either. Even if you find shitty soviet 9x19 for $0.10 a pop, that's $100 and a shit ton of barrel wear at high heat to run this test.
>>
>>34501889
Exeter Sigs rust. I thought everyone knew this?
>>
>>34502285

Sig USA's business strategy is marketing first and profits seconds. It's why you can buy 20+ variations of the P226 but only the MK-25 has the level of QC for a Sig. Plus with outsourcing classic P22x parts to India, product revisions every couple years, and a shady XM17 award. Plus the P250/P320 are the cheapest COTS pistols from the company who has thrown out their QC

>>34502602
It's probably not going to happen under normal conditions. Putting 1,000 rounds fast is rough on any pistol not rated for full auto. Still, it doesn't inspire confidence if their steel is oxidizing when others don't show this.

>>34502999
Plenty of Glock torture tests on Youtube that do not show it. At worst, you will break a guide rod if it's a Gen3
>>
>>34503380
>break a <plastic> guide rod

At least Sig was smart enough to get this part right. Walther pulled the same cost cutting shit and it was the first thing I replaced in my pistol.
>>
>>34503380
>>34503430
Also, not to excuse that shitty finish, but rust on the outside of the barrel isn't nearly as big an issue as a broken guide rod if you still happen to need to shoot someone.

Does anyone know what temperature parkerization burns off? I assume that's what they used on the exterior of the barrel.
>>
I had no idea metal oxidized under extreme heat.
>>
>>34503470
I think it must be the surface finish being heated beyond its limits, losing its bonding to the metal beneath, then being scraped off by friction, and then the underlying surface oxidizing
>>
>>34503470
>I had no idea metal oxidized under extreme heat.
No shit senpai
Why do you think welders use Argon?
>>
>>34501925
>This is actually pretty typical with pistols like this
It's not typical for a properly lubricated pistol to start rusting on the barrel after only firing 1000 rounds, even in a single sitting like that. Either Tim did something to the gun beforehand to fuck with it (highly likely, given his bias), or there is something seriously wrong with that Sig.

if i'm correct, this isnt rust. that type of oxidation can't happen that fast without some type of purposeful chemical instigation.

to me, this looks like common barrel wear, plus fouling which happens to have a brownish color. i'm theorizing that this is a formation of lacquerized bluing, carbon, and lube.

below is an animation of what happens to the barrel in the firing sequence of this action arrangement. note the barrel coming off axis, and contacting the slide. note the inside of the slide at 24:00 in the video.

Did you ever notice that /k/ has more "bitch-fighting" of men slapping men, than any other board on 4chan? I mean the constant "manlet!" "limpwrister!" "noguns!" and petty put-downs like that. Normal men do not get into slapfights in public like this. There is something about owning guns that brings out people's insecurities. You're just going to always get a lot more insecure men among shooting/gun-owning circles than in other circles.

Tim's personality follows this same theme, but on steroids. If there's a gun manufacturer that hasn't given him a factory tour, flown him to Europe and put him up in a luxury hotel for the week, or given him free stuff in some other way, then he seems to ALWAYS find a way to get that manufacturer's gun to malfunction on camera. It's all sleight of hand. If you shoot guns enough, you'll realize that there are tricks you can do to make reliable guns jam on camera. Most of the MAC audience doesn't have the same experience and will never fact-check him, though. And that's how Tim's ego gets even bigger.

the smoke of the ammo reminded me of black powder, maybe there is a problem with the ammo. the barrel should not rust there, it's a high friction area and any rust should be polished off immediately. otoh, HK and Sig can't get a nitride finish right to save their lives. you can't compare HK/Sig metallurgy to Glock. Glock finish and surface hardness are leaps and bounds ahead - so much so you can use a Glock barrel to engrave a Sig/HK barrel with. I'm always amazed how lubricious Glock parts feel even when stripped of any lube with break cleaner while HK/Sig feel like dry black board.

Most of you spurgs don't put 1000 rounds through your handguns in 6 months, let alone 15 minutes. Clean your guns after every range session and don't pretend you're going to engage in a 1000 round gunfight any time soon with a handgun.

I've seen this happen on cheap headers, it's a type of oxidation. Chances are the gun wasn't oiled enough, when the finish bakes off at high temps the barrel has a layer of oxidation form very quickly, think of it as heat rash for metal.

they all have finish wear off of the barrel and especially sigs, past 1000 rounds on any 226 ive seen the finish is practically history.

Like holy shit a pistol shoots for 1000 rounds with no flaws and the laws of science take effect after he puts that cheapo lube on the thing making rust and you guys act like it was supposed to turn into gold and give MAC a fucking blowjob or something.

SIGs rusting is not a bug, its a feature.

The barrels are engineered to rust as time goes on to compensate for the recoil springs losing strength thereby keeping slide velocity constant through the life cycle via friction.

Color me surprised.

If you're dropping your gun into rivers, mud, or throwing them around without any sort of regularity, the issue might be with you, not the gun you choose to carry.

You're a fucking retard. Even if you never do those things why not have a gun that can withstand it versus overspending for a piece of shit that can't? It's not the point that you will literally do all those things exactly it's just a measure to how much abuse a gun can take for reference.

God you people and your post purchase justification.
