>Be Colonel Fedmahn Kassad of FORCE:ground
>about to enter combat with The Lord of Pain
what do you do?
Why is a Colonel engaging anything in combat? How shit are the militaries in Hyperion?
>>34499432
what do you want to just nuke everything from orbit?
Wonder where all my troops and NCOs went, then wonder why they didn't tell me they were leaving... then maybe cry a little, but it's ok because they aren't here to see it...
>>34499496
he was the only soldier there, part of a group that traveled to the time tunnels
Isn't that thing un-killable?
>>34499426
What is this from?
>>34499526
Old Testament.
>>34499426
I unsheathe my katana and teleport behind it, nothing personnel though
>>34499426
Stop making those threads, you fucking human garbage.
>>34499529
>Old Testament
No memes please, i am genuinely interested if its a movie or anime, if it's a game then not really tho.
>>34499539
Hyperion. It's a novel.
>>34499539
It's from a shitty series of sci-fi novels called the Hyperion cantos.
>>34499532
Lol that's literally the monsters shtick.
>>34499426
Point whatever I'm armed with at myself and an hero, because better dead than being an MC for an overrated crap book.
>>34499544
>>34499553
oh shit, people still read books?
how good is it on a 10 scale?
I like books with lots of blood and guts BUT also with intricate very well done plot
>>34499609
>oh shit, people still read books?
you honestly disgust me
>>34499557
A fair fight then
>>34499526
>>34499539
It is from the Dan Simmons novel Hyperion and The Fall of Hyperion
The final fight between The Colonel and The Lord for the fate of humanity occurs in the second book
>>34499553
Its not shit and its not a series, just two books
>>34499609
Its probably an 11/10
The descriptions of The Shrike killing people is quite graphic
The story and plot are quite complex
Because the story is told from the perspectives of different people telling their story of how they came to be on the planet different parts of the story reflect different aspects of SF.
There is elements of military SF, space opera, Hard SF, speculative fiction, cyberpunk.
>>34499609
Like a 5 or 6 if you can to tolerate sci-fi.
>Intricate and well done plot
Filthy pl*b
Jk but the only thing this book has going for it is the world building. The characters are awful. They're just mishmashes of different pop culture tropes. Almost everything is revealed through exposition, and the deeper mystery isn't really that interesting.
If you want good science fiction that doesn't read like genre shit read the book of the new sun.
>>34499658
>tolerate sci-fi.
>>34499650
It's 4 books, Hyperion, fall of Hyperion, endymion, and rise of endymion, but you may have just got them in a 2 book set.
>>34499658
>Hyperion
>written in 1989
>pop culture tropes
it was written before that was a thing anon stop lying
>>34499674
endymion are hundreds of years later and completely unrelated
>>34499676
>1989 was before pop culture
>>34499658
>>34499654
>from the perspectives of different people telling their stor
uhh, i don't like that style very much, i preffer when it's told from a first person perspective of the main character, instead of jumping around like that
> the book of the new sun
looks interesting, but the description says it's like lotr or hobbit, is that true? because albeit not bad, those were too slowly paced and drawn out for my taste
>>34499677
>Completely unrelated
Other than for the facts that they're in the same universe, are a continuation of the story of that universe, and are included as part of the cantos, yeah.
>>34499686
I wouldn't really say it's like tolkeins work at all, but it is a slow burn so maybe it's not for you.
>>34499678
it was
>>34499686
it is from their first person perspective told from their point of view
the book is divided between them
>>34499700
Well I guess in the sense that nothing's real to you until you're born.
>>34499426
>wondering why my future cyborg self is trying to kill me
>>34499658
>The characters are awful. They're just mishmashes of different pop culture tropes.
Whoa whoa whoa.....but it was written in the 80's right?
So we're talking Snake Plisskin and Man with no name and whatnot right?
We're not talking shitty modern day pop culture tropes with the tough, half black girl with the side of her head shaved shit.
Fucking die
