take down is meh. it kinda requires finger nails but it's not bad. and yeah I can say without a doubt it's more reliable than a 1911. don't be fooled. 1911s shouldn't be your pinnacle of reliability. glocks should be. new handguns are coming close to glocks reliability and it's great because it gives options. they can go quite a while before cleaning too. not much will stop them (cept mud kek) and Glocks are one of if not the most popular pistol so of course everyone says glock because its so common.

Whats its most commonly used ammo?

It has a unique grip angle. That's mainly the only reason to consider it anymore because everyone else has finally made decent substitutes. I also like the double action feel. Everything is simple and straight forward, no safety, no hammer, fixed sights.

9mm. It's a good all around caliber. Super cheap. The full size (Glock 17) holds 17 rounds. Glock 19 is a 'compact'. Holds 15 and usually a really good size. Can conceal decently and is big enough to shoot comfortably. Second most popular is 40 S&W. Kinda pricy and comes in the same sized the 9mm does but holds a few less rounds.


tl;Dr go fingerfuck a G17 and shoot one and see if you like it. Sights are plastic and pretty shit and people complain about the plastic mags but they're cheap and plentiful.

And the trigger is fine. After taking up the slack on my stock trigger there is only like .5cm. Either I've got a great factory glock or you suck at trigger control. Not trying to start a fight, but I've shot a ton of pistols and saying the stock glock trigger is bad is like saying 'this knife isnt sharp enough'. For you maybe, but that is your specific personal opinion.

Most of the time what I hear about glocks is that their actual frame is too fat, and yes that can cause some people to have to adjust their grip making the trigger pull sloppier but I advise you get more trigger time on them. It's a completely fine trigger system. I actually prefer it to most other hand guns because of the .5cm of creep.

I didn't even think of this. In conjunction with it keeping the recoil at a mitigatable level, it keeps your aim fairly on target. The cycling of the pistol is fairly in-line as it were compared to most others, meaning you have faster and more accurate follow up shots.

I talked to a guy with a custom at the range, and I asked him about reliability, he just laughed at me. Because everything is so tight that a crud of dirt and it seizes up, plus it won't take anything but his specific load for target shooting.

Meanwhile the training instructor who runs courses with new players, has a norinco 45 he got out the door for 200 dollars. Thing is bomb proof. It's been dropped out of trucks, and left in the mud, ran over, as I hear it was dropped in a fire pit and left in for a long time before they got it out. I mean it's not a high quality gun, the barrel is stainless but that's the best part about it. When I fired it for the first time I saw just how much wear it, the trigger feels like nothing at this point because the sear is worn to fuck, the firing pin backside was deforming inwards, the rifling in the barrel was holding on for dear life. I didn't open inside but I bet it was a mess. But it ran and it ran reliably. We where using 45 surplus steel cased and it ran fine.

And that's one of the reasons I don't ever recommend carrying a 1911. Inherently the gun is on par with any old glock. But there's so much variation between them that it can be a fuck fest to find a good carry model. Glocks are made by 1 company. You know exactly what you're getting.

It's like Ars since the patent expired. I've seen ars eat the worst cheapest Russian ammo, and I've seen some really high end Ars reject good American brass, but shoot 1/4 moa or whatever with the correct load.

Tldr 1911 isn't 1 gun. It can be a lot of things. But for new hands stick with a glock.
