I tried asking in the Q.T.D.D.T.O.T. thread but got brand fanboyism so here I go!
Should I get a Glock 19 with a top tier aftermarket trigger, match barrel, and steel sights or a SIG P229? They end up being the same price.
[my opinions follow, feel free to disregard]
I like that I can hold down the hammer while holstering the SIG but I'm not sure how I feel about DA/SA vs striker fired beyond that. The Glock trigger I want is really good travel and break wise but as a carry trigger I can't safely have it as light as the SIG's SA trigger. Ergonomics are a wash really, both fit my hand and point well despite beind so different grip and bore axis wise. The one thing I can't test is balance once I put a light on because the range bully won't let me. Finally I like that I can put pretty wood grips on the SIG, but I'm not sure if I can get a finish that will match the steel slide to the aluminum frame anyways, which makes me almost favor the Glock's look for being more intentionally disparate. I know I could spend less on the Glock but I refuse to compromise.

You are causing me immense suffering. Can you please explain your stance at least?
>>
>>34470526
I own the G34 and P229. I'd never sell the P229. Its preference though. Everyone who does the hurrr durrr exter shit meme is just poorfagging. I own HK, Sig, and Glock. They all have pros and cons but Sig is my favorite. No gun is perfect and because of that there is always a flaw for someone to harp on.
>>
Does the Glock have a race trigger? Get the P229 if you want to carry (which you should).
>>
>>34470526
Glock, youll save on magazines.
>>
>dubious aftermarket modded Glock
>overpriced boat anchor with declining quality

If those are the only two option you've landed on, go find a used P229 that hasn't been toyed with by the owner.
>>
>>34471834
I recognize that, it's just my preferences have led me to a point where I simply lack the experience to choose.

>>34471846
It's the Travis Haley Skimmer, 5.5 lbs. I got to try a lot of them out because one of my boyfriend's friends has a bunch of fancy Glocks with stuff on them. Of course I liked the most expensive one that was suitable for carry which is why the Glock is so expensive compared to a stock one. But now I'm spoiled and can't go back. I tried.

>>34472004
Will it really make so much of a difference? How many magazines should I be buying?

>>34472060
The aftermarket parts I've selected are far from dubious, just rather pricey for what they are, but so is the SIG. I'm buying new either way, I don't really do used anything.
What would you recommend I try, since you show such disdain for my selections?
>>
>>34470526

Talo glock 19 comes with steel night sights and are common and cheap around here. Save the match barrel for when your stock wears out, not much if any gains with it. Suarez makes good yet inexpensive flat triggers, have one in my 34. Buy extra springs and mags with money saved on sights, you'll need it to wear out the barrel.

I have a Suarez in my 34. Also, I'm autistic about having a gun with common easy to find parts so if I bought a Sig it would have to be a 226 or 320.

I shot a 226 but a p30, even though it was smaller has been the greatest handgun accuracy wise ive ever shot thats close to its size. I loved it, did marginally better with the 226 over a g19, but the price and size of the 226 couldnt justify it over the 19 and my autism wouldn't let me get a p30

Neat, never even heard of it. Thanks for the tip.
>Save the match barrel for when your stock wears out, not much if any gains with it.
Well most of the 9mm we have is bulk bin lead stuff which from what I understand causes problems in barrels with polygonal rifling. I can't find any cheap replacement barrels without it and figure I may as well get something good so it's more directly comparable to the alternative.

Ive read the same thing but it didnt affect me so I didn't do any further research. I got a new barrel for the fully supported chamber to shoot more fun rounds, if you're spending the money for a new barrel you might want that too. Also for price comparisons between the two here, I'm seeing $520 for stock gen4 and $570 for talo glock 19 gen4 if that helps
>>
>>34470526
Glock is fine. Or get an older used sig.
>>
>>34472504
Could I bother you to recommend an unthreaded, lands and grooves barrel that will fit properly in the G19 that has a fully supported chamber? My Google-fu is weak, all I can find is the Lone Wolf which is discountinued.
The sights I was going to put on are the Trijicon unlit steel ones, only $35. I'm not sure how I feel about Tritium, on the one hand it definitely makes aiming in the twilight a bit easier but doesn't it also mean people can see you in the dark unless they're right in front of you? Seems sort of double edged. Is there any reason to have them in addition to a weapon light?

Glock > HK > Sig
>>
>>34472622
S-Shit. You saw nothing!

>>34472623
I don't like any of the HKs, they're too big for my hands. If I had bigger hands, and some reality bending magic to conceal it, I'd get a 92FS just because they're cool as heck.
Why don't you like SIG?
>>
>>34472670
P2000 or SK are fairly reasonable. I carry a P2k with V1 LEM trigger.
>>
>>34472614
Older and used = decent price for what you get. New price is too steep for what you get. $500 should be your goal.
>>
>>34472670
This >>34472697, I carry my P2k a lot and but with the V3 DA/SA trigger.
>>
>>34470600
New production Sigs are getting the Kimber treatment. Doesnt'h elp that Sig's new CEO is the CEO that ran Kimber into the dirt.
>>
>>34472697
>>34472733
I never actually tried the P2000. I saw it listed as P2K (I think) but thought it said P20 (which it may have) and was just a P30 variant. Looking at the online catalogue the grip does look better. I'll have to return to the range.

>>34472749
>the Kimber treatment
Which is what? I'm assuming a decline in quality and riding on name reputation from context.
>>
>>34472776
The P2K (P2000) is probably my favorite gun to carry, although it's pretty much a toss-up between the P2K and the Glock 19. If I could only have one though, it'd be the Glock.
>>
>>34472803
May I ask why? Just personal preference or something concrete?
>>
>>34472823
About the P2000 or the Glock? If it's the Glock, I just really like the trigger, weight, how reliable it has been for me (I'm not going to tell you that they're always going to be issue-free), the fact that I want a Glock 17 or 34 now and a Glock 43 and like how simple and consistent they are and they're easy to carry, mags are cheap, and anything you might want to do to the gun is readily available.

The P2000 just feels great, shoots well, and is easy to carry and I just enjoy it.

Having said that, if you really like the P229, go for it.

I've got both. Glock 19 in 9mm obviously, but my P229 is in 357 sig. I like shooting the Sig more and better than the 19.

The sig is going to cost more out of the gate, but you'll get a great trigger and steel night sights standard on most. An SRT trigger kit is highly advised and they're easy to put in. Almost all accessories for the P229 are going to be more expensive. Glock parts are plentiful and cheap.
>>
>>34472862
>About the P2000 or the Glock?
Both I guess. I wanted to know why the Glock eeks out the P2K for you, so you answered my question. Thanks.
>Having said that, if you really like the P229, go for it.
I hate having options. I don't want to end up buying gun after gun and not getting really good with any of them and not shooting each individual angel as much as she deserves to be shot, and I'm a slippery slope kind of person. I guess I should say I hate being so autistic I can't handle options.

>>34472716
>>34472875
In the interest being totally level here it's not my money I'm spending which is why I'm not being a raging tight ass. The only reason I brought up money in the first place is if one was way cheaper than the other and I felt both were on par my indecision would be unfounded.

If money is no issue, P229 all day long. I'd probably still take the 357 sig option tho.

>>34472249
not so much disdain as the fact that if you're buying someone else's modded pistol you have no idea what was done to it until you disassemble it. If you're going to start monkeying with the trigger and barrel on a Glock you should really know what you're doing. I'm of the opinion that if you're going to buy a Glock and throw $200+ into it out of the box then you are better off buying a higher quality pistol for your needs to start (whatever that is).

I recommend against "new" Sigs due to the recent issues with production and the inflated price. The older models earned their reputation. The US models are good of course but at the premium they ask you could have something else. If you're left-handed you might also steer away from the 229, it did not work well for me. The decocker was too long for my thumb to use with one hand and even Beretta 92's fit me.
>>
>>34473375
>at the premium they ask you could have something else.
But what? I'm not trying to be smug or anything, I seriously want to know if I've overlooked an alternative.
>>
As someone who just picked up a 229 legion, did I fuck up?
>>
>>34474351
Nah. You hust have more money than sense.

>>34473408
It's more that you're paying a huge amount for a gun that doesn't do much more than others at a lower price point. Above $500 you start falling into the trap of diminishing returns.
>>
>>34472249
A 5.5lbs trigger is perfectly adequate for carry. Go with the Glock.

What this anon says.

I have a Glock 19 for carry. Trigger is fine. Nice reset, and the right weight for my preference. I have huge hands, whatever that's worth. Change out sights if you want. I wouldn't fuck with anything else.

If you insist on a Sig, 226, or 320 all the way.
I know I'm not adding anything new here really but I'm just trying to drive the point home. I hated Glocks for years until the bro at my LFS convinced me to try one.

Parts ubiquity is pretty indispensable, and the new Sigs are crap for what you pay.
