What's a good gun to start with for a first time gun owner who has never fired a firearm in his life?
>>
My favorite gun to recommend to new shooters is READ THE FUCKING STICKY YOU NIGGER or the Ruger 10/22.

If you want to get into rifles, 10/22 or other reasonably priced semi-auto .22LR rifles are hard to beat. The 10/22 because there is such a massive aftermarket for it.

If you're after a handgun, you have a few choices. A middle weight target pistol in .22LR is going to be a lifelong keeper and will help you get all of your bases down. At the range I work at, my favorite picks for first timers are the Beretta U22 Neos and the Ruger Mk. IV. If you want a more traditional semi-auto pistol to learn on and then move up to a 9mm or something, a Ruger SR22 or a S&W M&P 22 Compact (NOT THE FULL SIZE) will serve you well in that role.

That said, see if there is a range nearby that has private instruction and get yourself an hour or two with a legit instructor and you'll be 2000x better off from the start. Plus, ranges like that usually have rental guns so you can try before you buy.

Sweet Jesus there has never been a more ergonomically comfortable handgun. I highly recommend it.

This desu
Something in .22 so you learn the fundamentals of shooting and not flinching.
But seriously stop being a nigger and read the sticky before shitposting

>>34470484
500 magnum revolver.
>>
>>34470484
Sig P320 compact or a Glock 19
>>
>>34470484
.22 revolver from a well known brand (Ruger/S&W) if you want to start with pistols.
If it's long arms then a Ruger 10/22. Marlin 66 if extremely poor.

>>34470503
Don't listen to this shit

>>34470484
A mosin nagant. The recoil and shitty trigger will make everything else seem easy.

Of course. We should insist on quality .22lr firearms and inspect them before buying to be certain that no shortcuts were taken and no mistakes were made during manufacturing.

I've been lurking and I am also new to /k/. Finished reading the sticky and still wondering why the 22 is recommended as opposed to a 12 gauge pump.

Pop had me fire his 12 gauge automatic the other day (was my first time) and it felt accurate, powerful, and overall gave me a very pleasant impression. The one he had me shooting the most was older and heavier - can't remember the model - but he had another I got to try that was a Browning Silver. Truly a joy to shoot. The rounds were low base, admittedly, but I was surprised with my accuracy shooting clays. It was a good day. Still have so much to learn!

Should I still go for the Ruger 10/22 as someone new to shooting, even though I have had an enjoyable experience with 12 gauges? I plan to muck about with exotic shells (like dragonsflame because why not), so from what I've heard it's better to go with a pump. Also I'm poor so, a pump would be cheaper presumably.

funny guy here
>>
>>34477713
.22s are fun to shoot too. it will probably cost about 50 bucks more than a shotgun but the ammo is a lot cheaper. i still shoot my 10/22 almost every day even though i have a lot of other guns now. either one is fine though
>>
>>34470484
nugget or sks
>>
>>34477713
Shotgun ammo isn't cheap. .22lr is. No recoil. Can shoot to extended ranges.

Proper trap/skeet shotguns aren't cheap either.
>>
No one has recommended an AR15 yet? And people are still recommending nuggets? Shit /k/ get it together
>>
>>34479666
this pretty much. I'm no /arg/ fag, but I mean theyre so cheap now there's no reason not to own one. Mosin's aren't *that* cheap anymore and not that cheap to shoot. Theyre still breddy cool though.

Also, .22 is cheap to shoot, so can be a good place to start. I'd go for a S&W M&P 15-22. Love my one for cheap plinkin' If not then 10-22.
