There's a lot too it. I have to do this every once in a while myself as I run a small business and have limited inventory space. Usually if I haven't sold it in 6-12 months, I sell it for whatever I think I can get a quick guaranteed sell, even if I lose money.

Part of it is less income, but it's also the issue that building additional warehousing space is expensive so it's easy to justify selling some poor selling items off at a loss to make room for other inventory that will sell.

You don't realize how much space shit takes up until you have a couple hundred or thousand of something.

it sounds like the fucktards actually fulfilled the orders from newest to oldest. those that ordered later seemed to have had larger chances of getting their items shipped than those that submitted them earlier. plenty of people that bought early on the 4th said their orders were cancelled in entirely, and then you have people that ordered in the afternoon and had all or part of their order shipped.

They've shown their inventory systems aren't capable of stopping MASSIVE overselling nor do they have anything in place to stop people from ordering fifty of an item to resell it. The first one I could forgive if it was on a scale that could be explained by small inventory shortages or trying to pick things from the floor when the warehouse emptied out, but what we saw demonstrates that they can't handle their stock properly at all. This is one of the most basic of basic things if you're selling stuff online, there's no excuse. The latter was also pretty easy to see coming when you've got $3.00 jackets and the like on sale and something should've been in place for that. /k/ didn't even need to be involved, one asshole could've bought up everything they had and walked away whistling which is not going to win any new customers or bait new sales. Unexpectedly high demand or not I feel it's a pretty poor show.

This was clearly an inventory purge hence "clearance". As long as they're getting the shit out of the warehouse, they're not going to give a shit if 100 people buy one or if one person buys 100. They wanted it gone and they achieved that goal.

You have flash sales where there are limits; PSA does it all the time. All of this stuff was clearance which translates into "we want it gone asap". Clearance is first come first serve in 99% of the cases.

This has been the trend with Mill's since they were bought out. There used to be a large selection of milsurp at my local Fleet Farm. That changed six months ago.

i'm pretty sure they didn't run out of stock, but realized that they would lose too much money on shipping if they fulfill the orders so they stopped fulfilling them. i'd be easy to confirm if someone that lives near those stores popped in to check if they still have those items for sale in the stores.

Thinking short term, sure. At that price point they weren't going to have problems getting rid of their inventory if a hundred people bought one or they just let one guy buy a hundred though. Trick is, getting a hundred people to buy shit gets you more exposure, there's also 99 more chances to sell stuff that isn't on clearance too, or at least get word out about your store for later. Sales that cheap bring in new faces like myself at least and probably more too. It still makes sense to set (high?) limits to make sure there's some stuff to actually be sold to your smaller customers for that reason; a sale with no stock isn't going to bring in much business later and if you're cancelling orders in part because you let people hoard fifty cent ponchos you're really not helping yourself long term.

A New York investment group bought them last year. New ownership rarely cares about investments of the previous group, so in a way this is "free money".

A separate way of thinking about it as well, is that when you have those 99 orders, that's 99 orders that have to be packaged and shipped. That's 99 packing slips, 99 shipping labels, manpower to pack 99 boxes, etc.

Now, you could have a lot of orders with people buying 50-100+, but most of your inventory would have came to the warehouse on pallets in boxes with 'x' per box. So if, for example, shirts came 24 to a box and /k/ommando kenny ordered 50 shirts for cum rags, all they'd need to do is slap shipping labels on two boxes and then only have to worry about preparing one order.

Oh, and if you're planning on not carrying surplus in the future (which may be the direction Fleet farm is going), then they're not going to give a shit about customers primarily interested in surplus.

But this is the exact reason why I don't drop ship with my business, even though I'd potentially make more money. All kinds of problems come up if you don't have the inventory.
