>>
>>34457352
It's ugly. Guyslee fucked up the barrel nut area. No one fucking knows why he put two screws there when only one locks into the nut. When he unfucks it with mk14 mod 1 hopefully it'll be fine. Or you can wait for SOCOM or Merheens to decide their new rail and clone that.

Tired of Magpul forend...
What's a good carbine length drop in quad rail? Also, is going free float worth it? It's a 10.5 inch barrel so it's not like I'm gonna be shooting for groups at range.

Oh and KAC is out of my price range for a gun that's just to fuck around with anyway.

if you carry your gun at the low ready and wreck yourself the gun usually ends up pointing at everyone uprange and it's quite possible for someone with the safety off to clench their hand and ND into people behind them.

If you carry it at the high ready the gun usually ends up pointing forward, similar problem if you're doing squad fire and maneuver and ND into someone's back

So to me it makes sense to drill taking the safety off at the start of the drill, but it doesn't make much sense to me to switch the safety on and off as you're moving from spot to spot. I understand that some comps require it, but if you were actually downrange in a firefight and you were moving from spot to spot in between sending out shots, I don't really see you taking the safety off, but rather just exercising good trigger discipline.
I could be very very wrong though.

Same goes for transition to handgun during a failure, empty mag, or just practicing your transition. In the event that you actually needed to use such a skill (emergency) I don't think it would be prudent to switch the safety off. Of course the movement can be trained to be very fast.

A shot timer tells all I guess.

people fuck this one up all the time. if you practice good trigger discipline then you're probably fine but some people can still slip that finger into the trigger guard, the whole point is to minimize risk here because under stress and while your mind is focused on moving sometimes people slip up.

anyways it's not a big deal to safe before moving. you should ingrain the idea that as you're raising your rifle to engage a threat the safety comes off, as you lower your rifle the safety comes back on.

I'm a big advocate of safeties on all guns but that's a bad tactic. A manual safety is not a substitute for trigger discipline, it's a mechanism that allows the gun to be carried safely in it's holster, rifle bag, in your pants, in your nightstand, under your leg while driving for quick access, etc. It makes a firearm much more versatile in that you can put it places where a gun would otherwise be dangerous to be left loaded. It also prevents glockleg when reholstering which is the biggest issue. On rifles you should pretty much only use them when it's slung on your back or if you're carrying it on patrol. If you're low ready it's because there's a threat, if there's a threat the safety should be off. Same as with a handgun, it should be off any time the gun is drawn and there's a threat. Any time your rifle is unslung and there's a threat, it's off.

Practicing good tactics is important.
>>
>>34459370
except if you have to raise your rifle from the low ready you can easily sweep the safety off on the way up at no time cost

So Highcom's 3S9 Ceramic/Polyethylene hybrid III++ plate stops M855A1, but can't stop the M80A1 EPR (New AP 7.62x51). It is 5.3lbs per 10x12" single curve, so presumably more ceramic than the 4lb poly/ceramic hybrids that are out there right now (Armour Wear) that are rated for M855 and M193.

I'm positive that M80A1 EPR will penetrate the Armour Wear III+ Hybrid plates, and I'm guessing that M855A1 EPR will as well since it is missing 1.3lbs of ceramic as compared to the High Com plate.

I'm considering just listening to A2 and buying Level IV.

Maybe I'll grab one of each plate and do the retarded thing where you put the weaker plate in the back and the Level IV up front.

M193 out of an 11.5" is probably going 2750 fps, so I would say no vs level III steel, but that is kinda a guess. Remember M855 going 2900 fps doesn't penetrate level III steel, but 3200fps M193 does, however there are a lot of variables, and obviously bullet design and material is a big factor.

>>34459370
Interesting to hear different philosophy of use. Maybe GT can clear this up for all us larping homos. OperatorAF seems to think that the safety should be used almost like trigger discipline.
I'm pretty undecided as it stands.

>>34459370
it depends, if I'm the only one then I would have the safety off if I knew a threat was 100% imminent. If I'm doing room clearing drills with my buddies the safety stays on until I raise the rifle so if I do sweep anyone or if they maneuver in front of me I don't have a hot rifle safety off pointed at my buddy. personally for me I just keep the safety on until I raise the rifle. it comes off by reflex as the rifle comes up and I don't have to worry about it.
>>34459413
it isn't a substitute for TD, it's an extra level of safety that has no encumbrance once you've developed it into a reflex. maybe not for a 90% safety and fuck heavy milspec trigger though.
>>
>>34459422

>>34459441
So you keep saying safety comes off as you raise the rifle, but what about raising from low ready or high port? I mean you could take your philosophy to the extreme and only turn the safety off right before your finger goes on the trigger? I guess I'm just confused as to where you draw the line.

Also I don't like the sound of having different processes for similar training situations, the only difference being the presence of other people. The point of drilling is like you said, to make muscle memory of stuff so you can do it as reflex.

>>34459441
I just feel kinda silly flicking my safety on and off and on and off during multi movement drills. Like I said earlier, we need to ask someone who has been deployed or something.

>>
>>34459568
You can get hung up on accessory slots just to miss out on the best bolt in the AR game and a barrel that will still shoot moa 20k rounds deep. All so you can jack off to a rollmark on a lower that even if you get the "good" one still only has right side bolt release instead.

Cult rumors aside, this guy can shoot:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAUgfAepugc
The drill seems relevant. He is doing movements around friendlies. He not only is turning his safety on and off as he moves, but he is also training muzzle awareness. That settles it for me. Safety goes on when you're not looking down the sights.

Is it okay that I have my A2 birdcage installed without a crush washer? I screwed it on finger tight with red loctite and that thing is on so solidly it might as well be welded on but I don't know if it will hold up to the heat.

Part of me says yes because in the past I've only been able to remove red loctited parts with sustained heat from a torch and even that requires a wrench. Thoughts?
>>
>>34459919
Heat will break down red loctite. Also, not using a crush washer could potentially result in damaged threads and even a messed up crown if you really cranked the fucker on. There's a reason crush washers are used. If you aren't seeing any odd accuracy or keyholing issues then its probably going to be okay until the loctute breaks down and the md works itself loose. When that happens, get some solvent and clean the loctite off, get a crush washer and install the fh correctly.
