How do you learn to fight if you've never been in the military? Is there a collection of pdfs online anyone can read? Asking for a friend.

Take a CCW class or other self defense class.
>>
Military field manuals are easily obtainable online, but knowledge is only a small part. You can read a karate manual and it doesn't make you a black belt. You NEED to practice. Shoot and exercise regularly, and get professional training from a company like academi, or Haley strategic.
>>
>self-taught martial arts
No, start looking for classes in what you want.

you learn to fight by fighting.

if you wasted your life and never fought it'll be very difficult now and youll only learn whatever your gym teaches you instead of the primal street fighting of youth that doesn't affect your record after you turn 18.

you turn out a different type of person.

Fighting is either in your blood or it's not.
It's instinctual.
To many variables to contemplate in to short of a time span. You have to let your body take control.

Try naturally fighting someone who actually trains you fucking retard and learn how wrong you are

>how'd you learn to fight with a weapon that only requires you to aim and pull the trigger

Classes are the way to go. But you can still expand on what you know with books.

You got to practice it though.

Look for the do/k/ument

Depends, do you mean fight as in combat or as in hand to hand?
If as in combat hit the range once in a while, if you ever actually need it you'll either figure it out or you'll freeze up and die, plenty of untrained fighters have been in wars, sometimes even making a difference. If you mean hand to hand fighting joining a gym would be the best idea, I'd recommend boxing.

What about learning stuff like small unit tactics, and basically shit so you don't get your buddy killed or kill him yourself?

That's the book smarts. You can pick up tons of books on the subject but really the knowledge is useless because you're going to be the only one who knows how to use it.

Get physically fit, learn some CQC and train in a myriad of martial arts. This is where MMA or similar kind of training shines where you can use different parts of your body in different situations; even in ground/grappling combat.

Really it's more useful to learn about how to stay hidden and out of sight or to blend in than it is to be physically prepared for fighting.
