PA here. You can buy the biggest and best consumer-grade fireworks right here in-state ...so long as you first prove you're not a PA resident. Only out-of-state folks are allowed to buy the good stuff in PA stores. PA Residents are relegated to the Junior Aisle, and can then go stand in their driveways with a sparkler in one hand and their limp dicks in the other.

Our fireworks laws are as straightforward and explicable as our alcohol laws.

If people just stopped using flammable building materials, we wouldn't need laws for fireworks and the forest service could do their job instead of creating miles upon miles of tinder boxes.

It was awkward and disappointing for me to light and watch the fireworks alone.
I also tried one of those wicks or matches that supposedly hold a hot ember for a while so you can light the fireworks off without the risk of burning your hand (i have slightly burnt my hand last year by accident). In my experience with those matches, they arent worth it, they dont stay hot enough and they wont hold an ember

Central Indiana here. No idea what the laws are, but between the constant fireworks and occasional automatic gunfire/tannerite, i'd guess they're pretty lax. Sounds like downtown Mogadishu for about the last week.

Colorado here, haven't looked up the laws but the fireworks tent I went to didn't have any mortar or explosives whatsoever.

I was driving to KC from Columbia, followed the billboards off the highway to a huge warehouse with all the shit to put on a municipal-level pro fireworks show. I had some time to kill, so I wandered around paradise with a tent in my pants. Big ass multiple mortar rockets called "cakes," electronic control boards that fired mortars in sequence, banks of giant PVC mortar tubes than looked like Katyusha rocket launchers.

I came.

I ended up buying a roll of 16,000 firecrackers and set them off in a vacant lot down the street. The cracker roll turned into a roaring explosion with a cloud that looked like an A bomb test. People pulled over and watched, honking horns and cheering. I caught my plane home in KC, but I planned on driving back with a fucking truck to stock up. I will, some day.

Other states with good fireworks are New Mexico, Texas, Wyoming, and Indian reservations in some parts of Nevada.

No state-level fireworks laws. You can legally buy even professional-grade, electronic-ignition mortars over the counter as long as you're 18, and anything under a fairly generous net explosive weight as long as you're 16.

STL City, STL County, and a few other local municipalities are "safe and sane". STL County does not enforce it, STL City only enforces it after the fact if there's property damage exceeding $500 or an injury requiring hospitalization.

In other news apparently STL County is 21 for tobacco now. Not sure when that passed, never affected me (moved here in my 30's).

Fireworks are illegal here in LA, but everybody just drives to the next county and brings them back.

I've never bothered though, there are so many big-budget professional shows around here that there's no sense in setting my own off, it's better to go to a good vantage point and watch the whole city light up. I have no idea why firecrackers are banned still. They banned anything with more flash powder than 50mg in the 70s, so there's no risk of people blowing their limbs and heads off. They're safer than those 1600°C welding torches known as sparklers. I've melted pennies with safe and sane sparklers, yet when I blew up a firecracker in my hand while lighting those ones with the 0.3 second paper BP fuses (from a strip that you're supposed to light all at once from a green visco), I only had a little bit of pain and some black soot on my fingers.
