In many areas, it's illegal to relocate raccoons. Even if you call animal control, they will "pick them up" but a vet will euthanize them.

Luckily where I live now they ain't really around, but old farm property had a bunch of them. I'm live and let live but they started killing my chickens, and that cuts into my bottom dollar.

I remember when I was younger my dad trapped a raccoon. I thought it looked cute and friendly in the cage. Figured he would release it because our original target was a groundhog eating our garden.

Instead he shoved a 22 through a hole in the trap and blasted the coon 3 times in the head.

I like traps. The concept always seemed to be more intelligence based, hence more difficult to successfully use compared to sophisticated violence like firearms against human adversaries.

Against vermin or animals, you more ore less have to obtain some knowledge about their habits and their preferred food, except for one thing. The real issue is to exclusively lure your desired prey. You ought to tailor your traps towards what you want to catch.
