Are Amphibious Tanks still a good idea?
Will we ever again see new Amphibious tanks built again?
Chinese and Russians still do i think.
Burgers either use an LAV or land a regular tank ashore. A more sensible option in an age when opposed landings are not likely to happen anymore.

It's like you think the environment has somehow magically changed between the cold war and today.
Amphibious tanks would be a fantastic addition to an abct arsenal. Every mind in the military community agrees that today's largest exponential threat is Russia, the distance between nato and Russia is over a shit load of rivers and creeks. I'm baffled we aren't fielding any amphibious vehicles in the army today for that sole purpose.

Because you can just set up on the opposite side, kill everything with that fancy modern weaponry and then cross.
The problem with all the shitposters who demand "why dont we use X?" is they only present a single, minor issue which doesn't need a completely new weapon system to solve.

OP is talking about open ocean worthy vehicles, not something that has to cross a river as quickly as possible so it doesn't take on too much water and sink.

Amphibious assaults against opposed landing sites didn't happen in the cold war either.

Only because the war didn't happen. Most rivers in Europe are aligned on a north - south axis, the most likely direction of attack is along the east - west axis.
