Okay, I've done it, but sure. Look it up. The red boxed section is the fuze, its what sets off the explosive in the body of the grenade. Separating the two is one of the safest things you can do. In the event that it is live, I'd say keep it, and keep them separated. The fuze itself is still dangerous, but less than the two together.

You know, you can always look into filing the paper work and tax stamp for a live DD if you are worried about the legalitys of it.
