America tried this 20 years ago, did it much better, and it was still a monumental failure

Russia will eventually come to the same conclusion. Infantry is outdated, as is land warfare in general, and we need to focus on drones.

Its just a mockup. America has done this a bunch of times for recruitment purposes, it means nothing for them and it means doubly nothing for a country like Russia with a strained defense budget.

>>
>>34404356

The US tried it and it failed because of tech infancy.

Now we literally have 1970s super computers in every house and mobile processors that are better than anything from the Soldier 2000 system.

The main drawbacks for Soldier 2000 were the fact it was too heavy and too power hungry for the battery tech of the era, which was pretty much powered by a car battery. The shift back to this sort of tech is purely led by how much consumer grade technology has improved to the point you could run a Soldier 2000 off a Raspberry Pi, powered by a phone battery and carry it all on a exoskeleton system.

Plus air burst grenades DO work. They are just pointless on a dedicated system. On an AK with a range finder and a simplified ranging system, they would work fine.

>>34404572
20 years old and yet it acts as a tech bed for a shitton of things in use including the legs being trialed at the moment as a marching support.

Vatniks are just attempting the same thing now with a better consumable tech base.

You do realize that hopeful wishing the engineers make stupid low-level mistakes won't get you anywhere, right? The guy wearing it will probably be much more comfortable than the guy actually carrying his 60 pound rucksack in the sun purely with his real legs.
>>
>>34404825

1. You don't carry the weight, the exoskeleton does.
2. I assume it has some level of air con in it. Even if it's just a couple of terrible shitty fans then it'd be easy to install and it'd save on heat exhaustion.
3. If it's even remotely relatable to Future Soldier, it's 150lbs of external weight. I assume these wouldn't be standard issue and probably just go to your LMG gunner so he can run around with his PMG without issue.

The biggest issue they'll have in the modern era, which was the same as FS program is the battery/power source.

Battery tech hasn't improved much to the point electric vehicles are literally using mobile phone battery banks. I imagine this is no better.

>>34404347
What i can't figure out is what the arm shields are for. I assume shrapnel but they don't cover enough space to be protective.
>>
>>34404837
They are using JP8 turbines on the TALOS already with a rechargeable battery when they need to approach something quietly. Power is simply no longer an issue and who cares about the noise of the turbine when half the squad has the weight capacity to carry around a 249 instead of an M4? The racket that would make will largely overshadow any engine hum.

>>34404866
Spaulders are never there to protect your arm but to prevent side shots from getting into your squishy torso. Rifle rounds through the side should be even more deadly than frontal shots due to the amount of vital organs lined up.
>>
>>34404879

You'd think that with the extra weight capacity that they'd be able to issue some rifle resistant armour on the side that'd somewhat flexible.

I guess not tho.

>Power is no longer an issue

Depends on possible deployment time. The goal is 12 hours currently.

Definitely they'll be tied to vehicles a lot more than regular infantry. If they can run off the battery and recharge regularly with their assigned vehicle they should be able to last on patrol for as long as the vehicle has fuel. Maybe we'll see the return of dedicated APCs with enough space to hold these somewhat bulkier troops rather than stuffing them into current IFVs?

And yes I agree the design of this Russian concept is really sketchy. Non-overlapping tiny triangle plates instead of simpler, singular large plates? Must be something the artist added when they realized nothing was on the arm. The Talos doesn't have exo arms either but the pauldrons look like they can be partially supported by hanging off the torso section of the frame.

That begs the question

Why the fuck hasn't the military created a armor that protects your ENTIRE BODY? It's clearly possible due to exosuits becoming real. Don't give me that shit about muh slowness, just make them capable of deployed down from helecopters and jets ODST style. Don't they want to save soldiers lives? Why the fuck are they using an outdated helmet design when knights had helmets protecting the face hundreds of years ago? Is the military stupid!? Jesus christ

here's the webm
>>
>>34404938

Could be a light version I suppose.

Future Soldier had 3 variant depending on role where the basic issue was just a regular vest and the suit was purely for weight distribution.

What I want to see personally is a LMG coupled with these. Those new aussie pulley systems to alleviate weapon weight/increase accuracy tied to the frame of these with a belt fed full size round machine gun would be the best issue that one of these could hope for since the idea is to offset pack size and increase operational efficiency of an individual soldier.

With a full size LMG like a M60E6 or something similar, these would be insanely effective.

>>34404941

They have. The Future Soldier program had full protection from 7.62x39 on a multiple hit level and some protection from full size rounds.

The problem is that they slowed the soldier down to such a point that speed and evasion > protection.

No point being protected if you are going to eat shots you would otherwise avoid.

I imagine the entire purpose the military will use exoskeletons for is to keep soldiers from tiring out on marchs/patrols while increasing deployment pack sizes in terms of ammo and such. It's what these sort of tech programs end up doing because until they keep maximum speed and flexibility with the system goals, these systems tend to cause more harm than good by limiting soldiers and their ability to go prone and act how they want.
>>
>>34404347
To me it looks just like proof of concept. They just showcased it to flex their muscles.
No way it will go into mass production, America did indeed try something of this sort.
Even if they were going to issue it anyway, in no way would it be standard issue. It would be too expensive to retrofit even sections of a military with this sort of gear. Not only that, but additional training and such reliance on technology, as it looks like it has a wacky high-tech visor inbuilt, is in itself a big turnoff.
>>
>>34404347
by being able to get a cheekweld on our rifles, mainly.
>>
>>34404347
Like This.
>>
>>34405005

America tried this 20+ years ago when the tech was pointlessly more expensive.

Now we have quadcore computers in pen drives that cost $30 and run off 6w per hour when in the 90s, a 700 mhz pentium 3 cost $200 without the rest of the system and ran off mains electricity and generally power hogs.

Plus there were no microturbines back then and batteries were shit.

Today the microturbines run well enough to try again and batteries are sorta better due to lithium being more prolific than the lead batteries before hand.

Wouldn't be TOO shocked to see proper full suits become a thing soon given the drone focus.

>>
>>34405055
Yep. Just a graphic design flair like an Aaron beck picture, to show how much mighty Russia is leaving America in the dust. Youve seen the US exo mockups? See a single futuristic triangle? Of course not, pigdog Americans using obsolete tech as usual unlike forward-thinking Russians who use triangle AND hexagons AND triangle camo pattern all in the same design haha burgers btfo.
>>
>>34405055
If the triangles were double-layered and didn't have giant gaps in between them then it would work just fine, basically triangular dragonskin.

Triangles and hexagons are sufficiently FUTURE, squares and circles can go suck a dick.

>>34405055
They want to look like Deus Ex, so in other words it's because of the illuminati.

It'd be a lot more practical to just use three large armor plates rather than all those triangles in the arms.
Human arms aren't wiggly tentacles, they don't need much more flexibility than is provided by an upper arm, elbow, and lower arm plate.
Plates would also be better at taking impacts than just strapping triangles to the arm.

Are we even sure those are armor? Maybe they're just rubber pads
>>
They can't, we control their president.

Will the army every make a standard issue over the face helmet? Something that saddens me are wounded soldiers that had their face cooked off by an IED.

No, unless you count that Mtek predator which isn't "standard". They only really have utility for gunners in armored vehicles or helicopters. For anyone that has to actually carry their shit, they are too heavy for the protection they actually offer, which isn't that much, particularly against IEDs. Plus it'll make your eyepro fog up.

A smaller stock that attaches on a lower point on the receiver. A cushion on the stock will also allow a stock-weld to the side of the helmet, the inverse of a cheek weld.

Unfortunately not an option for the AR-15 family due to the buffer tube being in the way. (^:

OICW, noob

It was supposed to replace the M16/M4 with the advanced warrior/soldier 200/whatever other 10 designations they gave that program.
It was a select fire 5.56 rifle that used STANAG magazines, had a 20mm semi automatic airburst grenade launcher, and a whole suite of thermal and night vision options. Awesome concept, but the technology was in its infancy when it was conceived in the late 80s. I think they should have another whack at it with modern tech.
