Which rounds are inherently subsonic? I only know that .22lr and .45ACP are.

9mm is super sonic. That's why .45 is a better suppressed round.
>>
>>34403504

.45 acp
147 gr 9mm
180 gr .40 s&w
9x39
.300 whisper, 220 gr .300 blackout
most .22 lr loads
.45 long colt

Those are off the top of my head. .45 acp is easily the most common and easily known. The connection here is big, heavy bullets. Sure it's not inherently subsonic, but you can get subsonic loads for .223, .308, and 12 gauge as well, so really it depends.

I confess: Europoor nogunz.

This. However most 147 grain loads are still sub
>>
There are subsonic loads for literally every cartridge.

I always laugh when they market 230gr .45 acp loads as "Hush" or "whisper" or "silencer ready." Even in +P, no 230gr round is breaking 975 fps at the absolute top end. Even a 200gr +P isn't going to break the sound barrier in a 5" barrel.

Load a bullet to 1050 fps or less and you are good. It's not rocket science.

>9mm is supersonic
Says who?

If you actually shoot them side by side there's a noticeable difference.

>inherently subsonic
.22 short? Maybe?

Even the rounds that are often subsonic--like .22LR and .45ACP--aren't always sold that way. Most .22 you buy now is supersonic I believe, and so is a lot of .45. You usually have to go out of our way to buy or handload subsonic rounds.

However, the calibers that are most widely used in subsonic variants--and still perform okay that way--are things like .22, .45ACP, .300BLK, basically what >>34404232 said.

The lucky Russian motherfuckers get 9x39 which may be the best performing one out there for short ranges, but due to the fucking import bans we can't have them. The best one for still being somewhat useful at long ranges I'm pretty sure is .300 BLK.

That vintorez bullet

38spl comes to mind. And 22 depends on barrel length...IIRC anything under 4 inch is sub and over is super when using 'normal' rounds.

.338 whisper
.338 spectre
.500 phantom
.510 whisper
12.7x55 sts-130 (not available stateside)
.510 beck (not yet released)
And the others mentioned ITT
