Help me settle a debate, /k/. If you balance the very end of the rifle barrel on something other than a bipod, does it affect the accuracy? Allegedly it fucks with the barrel harmonics.

If you apply pressure on the barrel whether it be by a wooden handguard warping because of moisture or you bracing the gun on something by the barrel it will affect accuracy.

Harmonics? For fully automatic fire, perhaps, but your rate of fire would have to match the natural harmonics of the barrel and accompanying parts (gas tubes, covers, etc). For single fire, no way. That being said, the vast array of calibers, loads, projectile and barrel configurations does not preclude the possibility. It would be a rare combination to have any effect.

Depends if it is free-floated or not.
Basically the weight of the rifle bends the end of the barrel upwards
