Is this thing really that shitty, or is it just a lemon?

>Firing the first magazine I experienced every failure you can imagine, and some you can’t: failure to eject, failure to extract, failure to feed, double feed, and soft primer strike. An then the magazine fell out. I couldn’t unleash more than two consecutive rounds without some sort of failure. But hey, the bolt held open every time.
>Next up, old reliable: Monarch brass 124 gr jacketed hollow point. When I tried to charge the MP40’s bolt, it picked up a round and slammed it into the feed ramp. I gave the charging handle a push but it wouldn’t move. Removing the round, I noticed the bullet had been pushed into the case.
>In short, a steep feed ramp prevents the MP40 from feeding hollow points.

I ordered a second magazine from ATI ($39.99 plus shipping), and two weeks later it arrived. I gave the MP40 a thorough cleaning and headed back to the range with some Fiocchi 115 gr and CapArms 115 gr “Superior Range Ammo” reloads.

The Fiocchi 115 gr was not the answer to the failure fest, but the MP40 fired a whole mag of inexpensive CapArms 115 gr without issue. Yay! But . . . the second magazine delivered the same farrago of failures, including a failure to extract that resulted in a spent casing being lodged above the fire control group. After 500 rounds of six types of ammo, only one magazine fired all 25 rounds. Once.
>In the final analysis, the GSG MP40 reminds of an ex-girlfriend (name withheld by request); it’s unreliable and temperamental. You can’t feed it when you want to. You never know if she’s going to disappear into the bathroom and puke her guts out. But she is attractive and you want to love her.
>>
>get new blowback 9mm SMG
>put hollowpoint ammo in it

WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT

gun felt shit at the gunshow though

(the .22lr STG44 felt great though, but I'm still not gonna pay for it)
>>
>>34397513
GSG mainly does .22LR guns made out of diecasts and plastic.

I would not expect them to make a good 9mm anything.

It's not the fucking 1950's, hollowpoints shouldn't be an issue.

Good girl.

I'm assuming if he read the instructional manual, it would say to only use 115GR FMJ 9mm.

That's the case for many tube-type 9mm guns.

/thread

I tried to tell you dumb fuckers this along time ago. but ooh no, you wouldn't listen to me.

ITS NOT A GOD DAMN MP40!
ITS A FUCKING TOY REPLICA WITH NO ACTUAL SIMILARITIES
>>
>>34400029
Even a Tec-9 can eat 124gr and those are legendary for being a piece of shit.

You'd pretty much be better buying a non-firing replica of an MP40 then spending your money on a 9mm carbine that isn't dogshit, like a Hi-Point. Yes, I am saying the Hi-Point is better than the GSG, because the Hi-Point doesn't choke on "heavy" ball or hollowpoints.
>>
>>34400029
>can only use 115gr
that makes the gun garbage
there are plenty of straight blowback guns that function with 115gr-147gr just fine

if anything, I'd expect 124gr to work better than 115gr
>>

Why not put a Hi-Point action in an MP40 shell?

>So a diecast clamshell that has plastic innards that attempts to look like an MP40 and doesn't work like an MP40 can't get through a single mag

MFW the tears of wehraboos are sooo tasty
>>
>>34402079
The action is pretty much the same, the bolt is a weight and there's no mechanical locking.
But the Hi-Point guns are designed (rather smartly), around making as cheap blowback pistols and carbines as possible while not being death traps or utter hunks of shit. Hi-Point makes extensive use of automotive industry around them to outsource zinc alloy castings, and the guns are designed very exactly around these really cheap materials. The slide or bolt on a Hi-Point is a zinc alloy twinkie with steel reinforcement plates, and while that sounds terrible, the fucking things hold up to some pretty astounding abuse, so they have done their math on that.

You couldn't really use the materials and design of a Hi-Point to make something that closely resembles an MP40, it'd end up real fat or odd looking.

It'd really be a way better idea to use a Sten build kit and build something vaguely MP40 shaped and then slap on some 3D printed or diecast cosmetic parts. Maybe change the design to use Uzi magazines which are way better than Sten/MP40 style mags. It wouldn't be as easy and it might look like shit, but someone with decent machining and metalworking experience could do a gun that's sort of like an MP40.

You're right, you could use a modified STEN action along the lines of the MP 3008 (pic related).

Yeah, make a clamshell plastic cover for the lower part of the receiver, extend some controls, make a bracket for a stock and pistol grip, place a sling-swivel on the barrel-nut, make a fancy looking barrel jacket with a hooded front sight, and you've kinda got yourself an ersätz MP40

Or give it a wooden stock like the MP41, that'd make it Ban compliant.

Once again, the jew betrays the goyim.
>>
>>34402664
To be fair, stamping is actually really expensive starting up and getting tooling, it's only cheap if you intend to do a very high volume of stampings, like say the Russians

I think GSG probably balked at the idea of setting up for stamping when that would make the product more expensive and it would be harder to develop, because they only know diecasting and clamshelling.

The GSG MP5 is a lot less shit due to being .22LR, you can kind of work with shittier materials there.
>>
>>34404857
high volume stamping is expensive to set up.
but you can literally get cast iron dies. and using a manually car jack hydralic press, you can stamp decent stuff.

shit like the cspec mags are stamped, and are relatively low volume and cheap

I fucking called it when the .22 MP-40 piles of shit came out and GSG announced they'd make a 9mm version for only a little more money. Why anybody thought this toy plastic and zinc abomination would be any less of a failure than Chiappa's 9mm M1 Carbine, I have no idea.
