What's up /k/?
Anyone want to see what happens when you drive cheap plated FMJs too fast into gel?

Just shows us whatever it is.
Shit OP and OP is a fag.

Here's that same load using a brass jacketed Montana Gold.
I love those guys
The 45 colt did surprisingly well, but I expected this to
But I don't load over 1000fps. Don't need +P for a 45 colt
Point is;
Cheap platings can't handle full pressure load in most calibers, thus the user suffers from albeit watered down ammo (for various reasons too) if the manufacturer opts for a plated bullet.
Jackets are nice, in all flavors. I prefer the brass variety though, brass is 65 on a Brinell hardness scale, copper is around 35.
Won't matter to 75% of shooters who plink around all day, but its stuff I like finding out
Nice research /k/ommando.

holy balls, an informative thread, on MY /K/?

Besides a lack of lead fouling, what do jacketed boolits have on hard-cast slugs?
which company are you using? Are you sure you didn't just crimp them too hard and damage the plating?
>>34393561
Hard cast is superior to brass jackets with a Brinell hardness around 20 or greater. Hard cast are extremely stable through flesh and bone but can deform still for they are only around 20. The cool thing about hard cast is that if you make the nose, or meplat, wide enough you can't increase penetration and wound cavity diameter at the same time - via the supercavitation effect. Hot loaded solid copper and brass deforms way less under bone if at all, but the lack of weight compared to a hard cast makes it suffer a little in overall penetration, depending on the caliber and bullet profiles chosen.

I only crimp .44s pretty hard because recoil.
This has been true over multiple brands and two different brands of crimp dies in the caliber for me though
Ammo is fun to play with
French Trv 50gr brass .357mag
I was keeping these as a relic but unfortunately they were stolen in a burglary along with a CMMG with Eotech and stuff

Should be can increase
Apologies

Then no offense, but why bother?

Huge animals like Alaskan Kodiak bear, moose, etc. Is where certain solid copper and brass seems more appealing to me.
I can only hunt whitetail and coyote in my state though. I have no doubts if a hard casts ability, but the idea of some of these solid copper and brass stuff is appealing to me by concept and barrier penetrative capabilities with minor deformation.
Each is to their own, like I said this stuff won't matter to 75% of folk. It's all about what YOU want your bullets to do, the glory of handloading

12ga foster slugs are overkill for most game, but my state restricts us for population density or some shit

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. So it's either the vepr12 or 50cal muzzleloader for me. The group I go with uses muzzleloaders, so that's what I end up using.
It's amazing how much the 50cals expand though, I'd bet it reaches close to 100cal, and quickly.

It's corn stocks from a harvested field, he must hunt near farmland.

Admittedly, +p hard cast loads are pretty far down the rabbit hole for most of /k/.
>>34396629
But it happens with most /k/ subjects.

You're right, I should be rejoicing that my formerly weapons board has been overrun by non weapons related posts made by teenagers crossposting from /b/ or whatever.
