Hey /k/, I just wanted to give you guys a big thank-you. Some years ago, I got this SKS, all Bubba'd-up as you'll see in the next picture. Now, it looks fucking awesome and has a much better fit on my shoulder. I'm thanking you because it was /k/ that convinced me to restore it in the first place, /k/ that directed me to get this particular stock, and /k/ that helped me find a solution for a problem with the gas tube cam being stuck.
I'll post the pictures, and then anyone else who wants and has done something similar can chime in. De-Bubbaing guns is God's work.
Here's what it looked like when I bought it, only with the optic and bipod attached.
The start of the job, with the stock not yet installed.
Stock installed, but I wasn't able to get the gas tube latch closed at that point, before some kind and patriotic Anon helped me out.
Last picture, bayonet installed, right before I fixed the latch. The OP picture was taken right after.
OP here, this could be an SKS thread too, I guess.

Thank you for saving an innocent gun. And it looks good. I've never seen an SKS with a new wooden stock. Usually either original or bubba.
It's nice.
>>34381577
Oh god what the fuck did that guy do to it? Why would anyone do that to a gun?
You brought that poor gun back from hell anon
You know OP, I hope you didn't throw away those parts (especially the shell deflector) because you may very well mount a scope someday and need that deflector, or maybe you'll want to put a bipod on for the heck of it.

I like the blond look of the wood, hopefully you kept the original accessories or sold them.
Profit is good or saving them for temporary use in the future is also good.
You did good Anon, very good.

Because he wanted a "sniper rifle", probably, look at the Bubba stock and where its weight is, look at the attachments that came with it.

The wood is supposed to turn red over the decades and no, I didn't throw anything away. The stock probably isn't much use for sale, it had a small crack near the gas tube, and the optic is garbage too.

you are a true gentleman and scholar.

It looks like this guy's gun

It looks nice. you should sand off that varnish and rub it with boiled linseed oil for a more authentic look
>>34381564
You've saved a sweet sweet sks from a life of abuse, thank you

I don't get it, is he a SJW so now people are trying to turn him into some Ben Garrison-esqe character?
>>34381564
what was fucked up about the gas tube? Was it the ferrule out of alignment? I'm glad you got it back together
>>34381564
This makes me want to find a bubba'd gun and restore it to its former glory. You're doing God's work anon.
>>34382412

I got one of those Yugo SKS's like MAC reviewed a little while ago. Great shooter. But, the grenade spigot was replaced with a long, cage-type flashhider. Do any of know how to remove that hider? Is it pinned? Welded?
I'm I just fucked up or do the NC Star SKS clips suck? Would Yugo ones hold the rounds tighter/less wobbly?

Anybody have a guide on restoring these? I just got a pretty beat up one for a good price but it has some surface rust and the bluing is pretty bad. I'm gonna take her to the range sometime this week and after start a rebuild.
The stock had a pretty bad crack at some point but seems pretty solidly glued together now. Is there anything I should look out for when refinishing?
>>34382409
Yes, for some reason the cam was getting hung up on the ferrule, I think a scratch on its edge was the problem.

I went to Lucky Shot Wood Stocks on etsy, but caveat emptor, it took me two months and I had to send him three or four messages asking for an update to chivvy him into finishing it. Great woodworker, but no sense of time management. In the end he posted the shipping label and didn't send the stock to USPS for four days, then claimed he'd done it days before when I reminded him...and about an hour later it updated to say it had been received by the postal service.
