So what you do is put your hands up, palms facing attacker, you cower por a second and try to get away while telling them to leave you alone, if they persist you equal force the shit out of them, if more jump in then you put them down until you no longer are in fear for your life.

Self defense has to be proportional, or at least close. You would likely be able to escalate the grappling/slapping shit into a harsh blow, but if you were to stab or shoot him you'd be in deep shit.

I think the rule of thumb is if they physically start touching you. I had a guy touch my shoulder I never met before I almost fucking exploded that they made contact with me. I'm glad I didn't because the police showed up like 2 minutes later. If someone starts making unwanted physical contact with me that's assault don't know if I'd go straight for a weapon but if I were on a jury I wouldn't think it would necessarily be wrong if you did.
