>5.56 x 45mm just like it says it on my factory included mag
>my gunfag friend told me I bought the wrong ammo. He said I'm supposed to get hollow point and not FMJ

Welp, looks like $50 wasted
>>

>pay $0.50 a round
You sure did
>>
>>34368127
5.56 and .223 FMJ is designed to fragment upon impact, so hollowpoints are mostly an expensive meme.

If you have a 16 inch barrel, your fragmentation range is probably under 300 meters (which is where most of your shots will be anyway). 20 inch barrel is probably 350-400 meters.

FMJ doesn't always fragment though, so that's why people buy meme-tastic $1/round hollow points.
>>
>>34368127
Nah, you're fine. FMJ is what you want for target practice, which you need to do, and you'll shoot a lot more than $50 worth before you develop good habits and muscle memory. I'd Google "ar-15 home defense ammo" to get some recommendations on what type of hollow points to get.
>>
>>34368127
Also, two points I forgot to address:

1) Congrats on becoming hazguns,

2) Post pics!
>>
>>34368127
Your friend is a retard.
>>
>FMJ
into the trash it goes, I wouldn't even practice with that garbage
>>
>>34368214
this so much

I only practice with .51 Gyrojet ammo. Yeah, it costs about $100 a round, but at least you know it's quality. I'm not a poorfag like OP.

Kek
>>
>>34368142
Not really. Fragmentation is pretty much guaranteed at 2700 fps (at least with m193). It can happen down to about 2500(?), but won't be reliable. Just going with 2700fps, that gives you a range of ~150 yards for a 16" barrel and ~200 yards for a 20" one.
>>
>>34368245
This is why i shoot more often than you and for longer.

Not sure if troll, or if the niggers on this board are actually this fucking stupid.
>>
>>34371403
it's almost as if there is a place you can look on each ar that tells you what caliber to use....
no shit it's a troll/bait
>>
>>34370258
The more modern ammo like the MK 262 Mod 1 fragment at lower velocities iirc.
>>
>>34370258
Not him but Wolf WPA hollowpoints? Even if they don't expand too great, they should still frag within reasonable ranges right? Or am I better off just shooting .22lr?
>>

>it's almost as if there is a place you can look on each ar that tells you what caliber to use..

Reading comprehension is not your strongest suit, eh?
>>
>>34371436
Yeah, I've heard plenty of good things about it.
>>34371452
I honestly don't know, but is imagine they'd do better than just about any fmj. The open tip is a weaker point than you'd find on m193 or m855, so maybe it'd frag or tumble at lower velocities? Youtube says they do fairly well in gel.

$.50 a round is getting ripped off unless it is match grade

All in all, M885/M193 = Range + Drill rounds.

For purposes of putting down animals both four-legged and bi-pedal, see hollowpoints/softpoints in grains 50 to 77.

For military application of modern conventional 'force on force', see MK262/MK318/M855A1 or even M856 tracers.

>>34368148
Don't
Get
Hollowpoints

JSP or FMJ is almost always the better choice out of an AR, sans MK262.
