SKS was my first rifle, not counting a 22. I love it, still have it, shoots straight and can be used for hunting up to whitetail.

When I was old enough to buy a rifle, the first gun I wanted to buy was an SKS, but this was during the post-Sandy Hook gunscare, so SKS's were like 600 dollars, which happened to be the same price as an AK that some fudd was selling. So, my first rifle was an AK

It was a North Carolina produced I.O. AK, but it ran fine until the rear trunnion nearly blew out and killed me, so I traded it in to the manufacturer for a new one, and had no problems since. 2 guns for 600 bucks? Not too bad, I think

Buddy has an AK, I got an AR, so 3rd friend wanted something so he got an SKS. First time he took it out it fired and didn't cycle. Kinda sounded funny too. Cycled it and wouldn't fire.

Look at the brass and the primer was punctured (think they were using wolf). He disassembles the rifle and the firing pin is bent at the tip. What does he do? he tries pounding it straight with a fucking rock. Tip snaps off.

So he only got 1 shot out of it. Refuses to sell it to me. This was like 15 years ago.

I got mine for $200 5 years ago. I could easily sell the same gun for $450 today.

My first rifle was Norinco SKS like most America and America Jr /k/ommandos, but it's outclassed by commercial weapons, let alone military weapons.

The 2x4 stock, shitty trigger, and high chance of negative sear engagement was okay to deal with for $150, but fucking $350 for a basic bitch Norinco is madness.

I can totally understand buying them up in Canada where they are priced correctly, but current American prices are just fucky in the land of $100 AR lower with 10 PMAGS.

You could buy new SAR-1s and used MAK-90s, and Bulgarian/Hungarians AK for $275 when the SKS was selling for $200. A basic Bushmaster was $800 in the same time frame, and $1200+ for a Colt.

An AR15 has been a better babby's first real rifle than an SKS for a while now.

Personally I think an M&P15 Sport II or AR556 is a better buy than building your own AR (you're gonna land at around the same price with worse components) and the AR556 has a better barrel.

You missed the boat on affordable SlavShit and SKSs aren't worth what they sell for in the US.
