I feel like something in 9mm is better for new gun owners since it's still very effective and cheaper to shoot overall, but as long as it fits your hand and you love your purchase that's what counts OP.

Actually, 45 has to be the most versatile caliber choice out now. Between 45acp, 45acp +p, and 45super/45smc a shooter has a broader range of options than any other caliber size for a single platform.

I like my AO 1911. It's not as reliable as my old Springfield RO, but I think that has to do with the smaller, correct style ejection port.

I have one as well. Had some problems with the recoil spring and GI style guide rod. It would bunch up inside upon chambering a round (manual rack or releasing slide)and cause the weapon to be deadlined. I got a wolf 16lb recoil spring, firing pin spring, and Wilson wombat full length guide rod. All is fine now.

Havent shot mine a ton, but it feels nice.
It's mostly a 1911A1 (except for that series 80 thing), for good or bad. You shouldnt expect a great trigger or sights.
One thing I highly recommend is do a complete detail strip and clean. Mine was new but it still had some nasty gunk in it.
