spooby woods bare minimum loadout? Would you be comfortable going to a national park with just a 9mm? Is it enough just against bears and coyotes?
>>
9mm is worse than nothing because it gives you a false feeling of security.
>>
12 gauge chambered in 45-70 bare minimum
>>
bear hands
>>
>>34353849

the right ammo have been known to down grizzlies

https://www.buffalobore.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=388

i almost feel like in that kind of high stress situation especially with a fast moving animal, more rounds = better.
>>
you dont need a weapon just for going on a walk in the forest
>>
>>34353836
depends on the woods. In places where large predatory animals roam, such as bear or mountain cats youd need a magnum of some kind. If its just coyotes or wolves or murderers a 9mm will suffice
>>
>>34353897
It was just a joke.
>>
>>34353872
underrated
>>
>>34353836
Depends on largest predator
People?
9mm
Coyotes?
9mm
Cougers?
.357 magnum
Grizzlies?
.454 casull
Skinwalkers?
45-70
>>
>>34353853
Where do I buy that? Is it California legal?
>>
>>34353836
I've seen a .357 magnum deflect off a bears skull, so I'd say no less than .44 magnum. For most smaller things 9mm shoud be fine.
>>
>>34353836
lmao don't be a pussy. For a short hike you won't need a weapon
>>
>>34354097
don't trust this guy, he is a skinwalker

I wouldn't worry about it.
>>
>>34354001
for skinwalkers i'd only dare to go on the woods with an AR chambered in .500 S&W or something with similar power
>>
>>34353836
>tfw walked the length of the country without so much as a knife
bunch of cowards ITT
>>
>>34355559
>AR chambered in .500 S&W or something with similar power

no one makes that. Closest you'll get is .50 beo, and at that point, you may as well simply use .45-70.
>>

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xse2aEaStZ0

This guy made one.
>>
>>34355559
a good pump 12 gauge with 3" shells should do on skinwalkers... I'd prefer a saiga/vepr or something though. and a doublestack 10mm as back up, at least.
>>
>>34355596

you're right... most animals won't bug you. but then there's that one out there somewhere that will. people actually get killed all the time.

I'd be more worried about the crazies than the critters.
>>
>>34356172
>people actually get killed all the time.
you are 45x more likely to be struck and killed by lightning than by a wild animal. There have only been 162 recorded bear attacks in all of human history, hell youre more likely to die in a car crash on the way to the national forest than you are to die of an animal attack.
>>
>>34356233
well, you probably won't get attacked by a wild animal at your local ball park, but you could be struck by lightning.

on the other hand, you aren't likely to be struck by lightning on a clear day in dense forest, but animal attack is more likely.

very few people have been bitten by sharks in the desert, for example.
>>
>>34356233
>>34356327

also I was pointing out that people are more of a danger than animals, in case you just didn't notice.
>>
>>34356327
too much autistic mental gymnastics

>>34356346
i agree, if you NEED to pack heat just to feel safe than you are a coward you shouldnt be allowed to own firearms
>>
I feel like something in .308, with a pistol in .45 would be good. Maybe a 30-06
>>
Bare minimum would be a doublestack 10mm. Preferred is a 12ga or .308 semi auto.
>>
>>34356390

so... people that think they need guns to protect themselves, (without condition, it would seem from your post) shouldn't be allowedto have them? what are you from australia?

well, cowards and chickens aren't the ones that shouldn't be allowed to own firearms...

it's spergs and asspies like you that should be disarmed. jesus dude. now you're just mad
>>
>>34356506
pls no.

t. responsible gun owner with ass burgers
>>
>>34356506
im saying that if you dont feel safe without a gun that you shouldnt have one because you are mentally unstable

im from america

asspies and spergs are who i am referencing like that cuck from season one of alone who got bit by a dog as a kid and has to carry a gun with him where ever he goes just incase and sperged out the first night he was without one cause he thought all the wolves were stalking him. Cowards shouldnt have weapons.

im not mad at all, though you seem upset
>>
>>34354001
Is it weird that you could replace all the calibers in this chart with "a condom" and it would still make sense?
>>34353836
Probably a .357, though that's if I'm limited to a single gun.
I'd probably go for a .357 (must be >3") alongside some shit like an AK or other intermediate caliber rifle, though preferably either in a 6.5 or larger diameter caliber for muh penetration and the ability to drill out the tips and fill them with shit easier than with things like 5.56.
>>
>>34356233
>There have only been 162 recorded bear attacks in all of human history,
T. Bear

Emphasis on the word recorded

Can't record shit if there aren't any survivors captain Grizz
>>
>>34356597
family members would report them as missing, the body would eventually be found, there would be evidence of a bear attack and it would get recorded. Bears arent dangerous, i saw 32 of them while through hiking the AT, i just made a little noise and theyd run off as fast as they could
>>
>>34356626

Those are black bears dude. Black bears are pretty timid, browns get far more aggressive and are considerably larger.
>>
>>34356626
>AT
We're talking about grizzlies here, not cuckbears.

>>

there have only been 10 grizzly bear deaths, 7 of which where in the 1800s, they are not a problem at all
>>
>>34356685
Deer. Deer kill far more people.
>>
>>34356687

Some bears killed 2 people in separate attacks this week alone in alaska. I mean, this shit happens to people who live in areas with bears, not the rest of us. Most bear fatalities aren't going to be reported, they're just going to go into the pile 674738573 people who went missing jn the wilderness.

Black bear sightings/donkey noms/killed in Middletown CT.

Poor bear - must have been hongry
Poor donkey - got et
Central CT - bears. da fuq?

Bear bells and common sense have served me well in Baxter St. Park, Maine. But in afterthought, I should've brought my Win94 Ranger 30-30 for black bear and lesser. In the west/north, I'd want a BAR.

>>
>>34356685
couple of years ago, my mom plowed through a moose in downeast Maine in her minicooper.

Troopers said she was lucky that she was so short (5' even) in a low riding car - otherwise she'd been decrapitated instead of broken collarbone and lacerations.

Fucking moose.

When I go hunting/camping in (eastern and central Texas) I bring my USP 45 Tactical at least, add in my AR if I'm shooting hogs. I'm more worried about methheads than anything else.
>>
>>34356687
This cant possibly be true. There have been 2 bear attacks near where i live this spring alone, 1 of them fatal.

Granted attacks usually occur in remote communities or logging camps where bears know they can get food, but your numbers are way off. Besides, getting mauled by a bear but surviving isn't exactly appealing to anyone.

its true, but my first post as answering ops question of whether you would feel comfortable in a national forest with only 9mm, to which i responded that i walked the length of the country without even a knife. My point is that you dont need a gun innawoods and that if you feel like you do you shouldnt be going innawoods to begin with.
>>
>>34356716
The couple he guided was FROM new York, you chucklefuck
>>
For areas where large carnivores might be present, I carry a 44 magnum with a 8 inch barrel. You need a gun that can stop a bear. If you don't like wheel guns, then a 10mm is a great choice as well.

Exactly. Anyone who believes the myth that "wild animals" are vicious creatures that "attack humans" is just a paranoid retard.

Pic unrelated.
>>
>>34355645
45 70 does not cut it against skin walkers, 300 winmag is what you want. Get hollow tips filled with white oak and sage ash blessed by a shaman and then left to absorb the moon light for at least a week.

>>
>>34353853
>>34356759
Idiots.

OP what you need is a 8mm Mauser rifle chambered in 223, it'll blow apart anything you shoot at.
>>
>>34356506
>>34356535
Having a very reasonable respect for the wilderness critters and coming prepared to deal with it is not cowardice. If your only defense is
>it will never happen
then you are unprepared. If you have ever seen what these animals are capable of you would know why you might want to carry.
>>
>>34354001

All those can be checked off with "45-70" as the proper answer.
>>
>Spending half the day with others such as hiking, fishing or biking near commonly frequented trials/routes?
Any caliber that you're comfortable to compromise for, depending on number of armed people.

>Doing said activities above, but by yourself?
10mm, .357 mag, .41 mag, maybe .44.

>Camping and spending overnight innawoods with friends who also own guns?
12/16/20 gauge shotguns and your typical deer rifles preferred, with maybe a handgun as backup depending on number of armed people.

>Camping and spending overnight innawoods by yourself?
You don't go out by yourself, ever. Especially miles out in the woods, and especially at night.
>>
its a national park, chill out, you dont need a fuckin gun for it BUT
I would take a mosin if you are taking one.

Big horn armory now makes a lever action 500S&W. Naturally this is going to be able to handle somewhat higher pressure than a revolver so you can load it quite hot and I do believe they make 700 grain bullets for this particular cartridge.

Canadian here.

I routinely go into parks with nothing more than bear spray, a knife, and a hatchet/machete.

You manlets need to stop worrying about animals trying to rape and eat you, just have some common sense. Store your food properly, don't make messes, and be wary of what lives in the area.
