How do you think an alien invasion would play out? I always imagined it going the way of battle Los Angeles.
>>
You have shit taste in films. And you make shit threads. Place your head under your asshole. And shit in your mouth.

There you have achieved the same goal as this thread.
>>
>>34350883
They would crush us the way we could crush an ant hill
>>
>>34350883
It all depends on their goals
Wipe out humanity? Glass the planet
Take the biosphere? Then you have something like XCom or BLA sure
Throwdown with aussies for shits n giggles, followed by a kangaroo shag? Drunk screeching in alien languages followed by a brawl and trip to the desert
>>
Self-replicating Von Newman Berserk probe enters the solar system, captures all the planets, but Earth and begins to develop a mighty industry. Meanwhile, a small relativistic kill vehicle crashes against Earth. It carries nanites that slowly, but surely either subjugate, transforms or kills every living being.
>>
>>34350910
Nah, we got nukes and guns now.
>>
>>34350883
Bullets won't work on them and neither would bacteria, nukes, rockets, grenades, melee, morality, peace, friendship, armor, bunkers or anything.

We would all either die, turn into slaves or just turn into food.
>>
>>34350883
any alien race advanced enough to travel to earth could glass the planet from orbit.

the only weapon we have that could defeat a ship in orbit fast enough for it to not intercept it is a thunderwell and that is only a theoretical concept.
>>
>>34350883
EMPs and precision strikes on communications and electric grid. Drone swarms, with individual drones numbering in the billions, at the least, wiping out all human life with minimal resistance. We lose the instant they decide to defeat us.
>>
>>34350883
Before you tell me to fuck off to /x/ who's to say we aren't already Invaded by aliens
It wouldn't be an action packed Independence Day/battle LA/battleship sort of thing, it would simply be parasitic take over of all leaders of the world

Or for exciting purposes it'll be like The Thing movies
>>
>>34350883
Anon mentioned a novel were ayys happened to skip a few tech developments amg lag behind awfully on some others because of particularities of their homeworld, sent a probe to earth that relayed outdated info (they expected reinassance era tech) and arrived to modern erf to a rude awakening lmao.
>>
>>34350883
There is very little reason for an alien invasion in the traditional Hollywood style.

There are far more resources available in the asteroid belt and the moons of the gas giants than there are here on Earth, and the aliens could extract those resources without having to overcome Earth's strong gravity well. And if the aliens have the technology to travel interstellar distances, the odds are that they have no need for enslaved laborers.

The only real reason for aliens to attack Earth is to destroy our civilization before we can become a spacefaring empire ourselves (and thus compete with them for resources), in which case it would be perfectly easy for them to nuke every city on the planet from orbit without ever landing a single soldier on the ground. The war would be over before we even knew it had started and there would be no chance to fight back.
>>
>>34350970
That or famas
>>
>>34350883
Somewhat like Eclipse Phase, but without any survivors.
>>
>>34351015
Pretty sure I know what your talking about. I think it's by Harry Turtledove
>>
>>34351090
Yeah, the Worldwar series. The aliens land during WWII and think that we have medieval-era tech because their reconaissance is outdated.
>>
>>34350883
You woudn`t even see the aliens.
If they are interested in the planet and just want to remove humans, they would use some kind of nano weapon like in the movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still" or release some engineered plague to wipe out people.
>>
>>34350883
even assuming they're not too much more advanced than us and came here on a slow ship:

Earth at present is in the same situation as Japan during the first mongol invasion -- that is, our methods of warfare are specially adapted to fighting against ourselves.

For instance, we have no orbital weapons, we scale back nuclear weapons production, we don't contemplate how to weaponize space as much as we should, and ABM technology has been stifled because of the politics surrounding MAD and preventing arms races.

A space based attacker with even slightly better tech than us could nuke every single target of interest on the planet with no real resistance, since all of our assumptions about nuclear warfare intend for earthbound targets who play by earth politics.

Battle Los Angeles is actually a hopeful situation -- real aliens would most logically have nuked from orbit and then used land and air forces to clean up survivors.
>>
>>34350930

They have nukes and some sort of guns and they have them on orbit.

Nukes are not special to humans. Those aliens probably couldn't have powered those drives of theirs without nuclear power. If humans or human descendants are ever going to leave this system, they're gonna do it on top of some big ass nuclear reactions.
>>
>>34350883
Very poorly.

Any species that has mastered interstellar travel has almost certainly has access to weapons of mass destruction beyond our comprehension.

>There are far more resources available in the asteroid belt and the moons of the gas giants than there are here on Earth, and the aliens could extract those resources without having to overcome Earth's strong gravity well.

Also this always pissed me off.
>>
>>34350930

Slit your wrists retard
>>
>>34350932
You will die fighting for The Emperor, heretic!
>>
>>34350883
They would probably shoot the shit out of us from space.
>>
>>34350883

Nukes or kinetic bombardment, emp, more nukes, kinetic bombardment and EMP. Followed by superior airpower that makes anything that survives the former look like a battle between modern airforce and something out WW1.

Ground warfare might be a different case, depending how much armor they have, and how good their armor is. Even if we could kill them or their drones with guns, rpgs etc. they could still call in a very fucking effective airstrike that would make any resistance fighting next to useless.
>>
>>34351431
Maybe they want to grow food and shit?
>>
>>34350883
like this
1/2 btw

In the forests below, lakes caught the first rays of the rising Sun and threw them back into space. Abandoning the two-dimensional sprawl of twentieth-century cities, Sri Lanka Tower, and others like it, had been erected in the world's rain forests and farmlands, leaving the countryside virtually uninhabited. Even in Africa, where more than a hundred city arcologies had risen, nature was beginning to renew itself. It was a good day to be alive, she told herself, taking in the peace of the garden. Then, looking east, she saw it coming -- at least her eyes began to register it -- but her optic nerves did not last long enough to transmit what the eyes had seen.

It was quite small for what it could do -- small enough to fit into an average-sized living room -- but it was moving at 92 percent of light speed when it touched Earth's atmosphere. A spear point of light appeared, so intense that the air below snapped away from it, creating a low-density tunnel through which the object descended. The walls of the tunnel were a plasma boundary layer, six and a half kilometers wide and more than 160 deep -- the flaming spear that Virginia's eyes began to register -- with every square foot of its surface radiating a trillion watts, and still its destructive potential was but fractionally spent.

Thirty-three kilometers above the Indian Ocean, the point began to encounter too much air. It tunneled down only eight kilometers more, then stalled and detonated, less than two-thousandths of a second after crossing the orbits of Earth's nearest artificial satellites.

2/2

Virginia was more than three hundred kilometers away when the light burst toward her. Every nerve ending in her body began to record a strange, prickling sensation -- the sheer pressure of photons trying to push her backward. No shadows were cast anywhere in the tower, so bright was the glare. It pierced walls, ceramic beams, notepads, and people -- four hundred thousand people. The maglev terminal connecting Sri Lanka Tower to London and Sydney, the waste treatment centers that sustained the lakes and farms, all the shops, theaters, and apartments liquefied instantly. The structure began to slip and crash like a giant waterfall, but gravity could not yank it down fast enough. The Tower became vapor before it could fall half a meter. At the vanished city's feet, the trees of the forest were no longer able to cast shadows; they had themselves become long shadows of carbonized dust on the ground.

In Kandy and Columbo, where sidewalks steamed, the relativistic onslaught was unfinished. The electromagnetic pulse alone killed every living thing as far away as Bombay and the Maldives. All of India south of the Godavari River became an instant microwave oven. Nearer the epicenter, Demon Rock glowed with a fierce red heat, then fractured down its center, as if to herald the second coming of the tyrant it memorialized. The air blast followed, surging out of the Indian Ocean -- faster than sound -- flattening whatever still stood. As it slashed north through Jaffna and Madurai, the wave front was met and overpowered by shocks rushing out from strikes in central and southern India.

Across the face of the planet, without warning, thousands of flaming swords pierced the sky...

If you can travel space for long periods of time than growing food indoors shouldn't be too hard to figure out. We're also discovering water on damn near every planetoid we study so the only thing unique to earth, as far as we know, is advanced life.
>>
>>34351486

This makes sense. They could fuck our infrastructure up, but it would not be in their interest to make a habitable world uninhabitable. That would be fucking stupid.

Of course this kind of scenario is where a dead man switch comes handy (build enough nuclear weapons, a single doomsday device etc. to make enemy victory as bitter, unprofitable etc. as possible)
>>
If you want a realistic scenario: they'd nuke us from orbit. Not much we can do about that.

If you want a more interesting scenario: it'd be like War of the Worlds in the sense that the aliens, quite literally, walk over us in a few days. And this time, the sniffles won't kill them.

Would be pretty interesting to see how negotiations go.

>how about we give you food in exchange for cool tech?
>why would we do that when we can just take it or put a human erasing virus into the water?
>you ever hear of this funny thing called fission?
>ah yes, we're fascinated by harvesting your sea life.
>*nuke goes off in the middle of the pacific*
>BY FEK'LR's GORBATCH
>Now about that cool tech
>Y-you can't just bomb yourself!
>Been doing it for years xeno scum. Farmbelt's next unless you pull the Enterprise out of one of your asses.
>>
You know they don't actually have to use nukes or other weapons to wipe out humanity right? They can just find a big ass asteroid in the asteroid belt, give it a push and send it barreling towards earth. That's bound to fuck us up
>>
>>34351619
Don't even bother with that.

>get an old space junker
>get it to near C
>fly it into earth
>repeat if necessary
>>
You guys are such fucking pussies holy shit. The answer is that we'll find a way to survive, always had and we'll always prevail in the end. We're fucking humans, we made this entire planet our bitch and no fucking xenos gonna wipe us out on our tuft no matter how advanced they are.
The emperor protects.

The aliens heard humanity's early radio transmissions and wished to make peaceful first contact.
Unfortunately, the first signals detectable over interstellar distances were mostly speeches by Hitler. The aliens aren't too happy when they find out what we did to him.

earth is nothing but an intergalactic ethnic food court/truck stop?

any race that could successfully fly between stars, even if it was hundreds or thousands of years. Would have the science needed to sweep aside any race that couldn't. Especially if they came prepared to crush the intelligent local life.

>because environments with liquid water capable of sustaining complex biosphere's are common as fuck.
>>34351486
They'd have hydroponics.
>>
>>34351944
Probably something like this. I don't see the point in travelling across the galaxy just to show up and exterminate a species. I figure it will be a subversive thing meant to exploit us for something.
>>
>>34351489
>>34351495
This story was retarded.
>RKKV' s
>spending said energy to propel said KV.
>a civ not noticing said drive.
>projectile not hitting anything during travel
>>
>>34352024
no you're retarded for making retarded assumptions
>>
Aliens begin to dismantle the entire solar system to build a Dyson Sphere without asking for permition, nor even bother to contact us, or purposely exterminate us.
>>
>>34350883
They would just throw asteroids at us.
We just die without any chance to fight back.
Or maybe they feel super generous and accept our unconditional surrender.

They shot a laser from the other side of the galaxy and just what a couple thousand years.
>>
>interstellar race
Vs
>race that can barely get people into space with failure rates

They just sit in orbit and bomb the shit out of everyone to soften everything up before coming down
