Am I the only one who loves fixed sights? I wish they put them on more pistols One less thing to have to fuck with.
>>
Nope, I love them too anon.
>>
>>34349810
Nope, same here. Adjustable is always a pain.
>>
>>34349815
Thank God I'm not alone.
>>
>>34349810
why wouldn't you?
>>
>>34349834
Ask Smith and Wesson. They're the ones who decided to put adjustable sights on damn near everything for no goddamn reason.
>>
I prefer antennae sights that are secured with scotch tape and flail around like an inflatable tube man.

Nope, you're not. I'm saving up for a Vaquero. GP100 would last forever+, but the sights are fucking ugly. Having them integral to the frame is just comfy.
>>
>>34349860
There isn't. Fixed sights work just fine. I had a single action army clone that could hit a dime at seven yards. Adjustable sights are a gimmick for people who flinch a lot.
>>
>>34349879
>Adjustable sights are a gimmick for people who flinch a lot
Well, that's a reason, is it not?
>>
>>34349880
No. If you can't learn to shoot without flinching, it's proper training, not adjustable sights that you need.
>>
Fixed sights are a shit. Next you'll justify no optic mounts too.
>>
>>34349899
Doesn't change the fact that using adj sights over proper training, as vile and repulsive it is, is still a reason, a reason used to justify their inclusion on many firearms, especially firearms marketed to the common man.
>>
>>34349902
>optic mounts
For handguns? Very few people use glass sights on handguns.
>>34349903
A very bad reason.
>>34349903

Anybody can learn how to do the surprise break. It's very easy.

>>34349879
The fact that handguns nowadays can shoot three to four different weights of bullets for different purposes and recoil levels that all hit targets at different elevations instead of everyone using the same plain load all the time is just a fad I'm sure, Elmer.
>>
>>34349910
>A very bad reason.
I am not arguing that anon. I am arguing that it is not "no goddamn reason".

What if I am a samurai of the gun? What if the only thing I ever put through my SAA clone is .38spl +P 125gr Golden Sabre, and know exactly where every shot will go?
>>
>>34349879
With 230 grain cowboy loads.

Modern revolvers have adjustable sights because they shoot a variety of bullet weights.
>>
>>34349913
The change in elevation is not enough to make a difference except at very long ranges.
>>
>>34349910
Maybe more people would use optics on pistols if more companies made pistols with optic mounts.
>>
>>34349925
There's no need for them. No need at all. At distances where you need a scope, you may as well use a rifle.
>>
>>34349930
This. Only handgun hunting douchebags bother with pistol optics. Irons are plenty even up to intermediate rifle rounds.
>>
>>34349930
>what are red dots
Also you don't 'need' a gun in general but let's not go there.

Unless you have really fucking bad eyesight not even glasses can fix, like me, optics are a meme for shooting at anything under 300 meters. If a bunch of shitty Finnish conscripts with beat up RK62's can do it with a few hours of practice, you have no excuse.
>>
>>34349810
Eh. Maybe on a quality gun. The fixed sights on my Windicator are off and there's no way to adjust them
>>
>>34350176
you can't file or bend the front sight post?
>>
>>34349810
I generally prefer fixed sights on fighting handguns, yeah.

For hunting or target handguns, adjustable is obviously advantageous.
Like, old classic Colt sights on Single Actions suck, but then look at Ruger, who gives you a big front sight and a fully adjustable rear sight on a flat top, vast improvement.
If in some crazy scenario I was forced to choose between a classic Peacemaker and a Blackhawk for combat (asume .45 Colt), I'd much prefer the Blackhawk.
Of course, being able to choose anything, I'd grab an M16A1 and not even look at a handgun.

>>34349862
The GP100 Match Champion has fixed sights as an option.

>>34349879
Aside from bullet weights, a lot of classic SAA revolvers have fixed sights, and yet you find the thing shooting low and to the left, good luck getting that adjusted, there's only Kentucky Windage for you.

Even Elmer Keith preferred adjustable sights on his wheelguns, he wrote an article on going through the trouble of fucking with the fixed sights on single action revolvers to make them actually hit exactly where he was aiming.

Just get a gp100 with fixed sights brah
>>
>>34349810
They're growing on me, but I don't like the fact my rough rider has no notch on the back. There's a notch on top of the frame, but it doesn't go through to the hammer, so I have to peek my front sight up over this round rear sight and line it up with my firing pin. It works, just not great.

You're are not the only
The first thing you are trained on is fixed irons
I shot expert rifle marksman with irons
Anytime I mention irons with the 90% tacticool muh red dot crowd on /k/
The usual response is kys
>Sighs
>>
They're great on pistols until they are out of alignment. Adjustables are also great unless you need a set of smithing tools just to adjust the fuckers. I'm mad about your sights, Ruger. Why do they all come from the factory with fucked up windage?
>>
>>34349918

Instead of adjusting sights, adjust your aim. Its a fuckload faster and tool free.
>>
>>34350610
OP isn't talking about your fancy adjustable iron sights.
That retard thinks anything but fixed non-adjustable iron sights is heresy.
>>
>>34350888
God damn thanks
In that case I strongly disagree
>>
>>34350299
So you're suggesting that he adjusts his fixed sights? Hmm, wouldn't it be nice if they made adjustable sights to make that easier? Oh. Wait. They do.
>>
>>34349810

I like the standard military pistol sights for most guns. Sure 3 dot sights and target sights arw nice when I'm at the range but my P64's basic fixed sights are easy to pick up and don't snag since they arw fairly small

i think sigs' adjustable diopter ring sight from the 55X series of rifles and the hk g3 etc is both aesthetic as fuck , sexy and so useful.

this shit is so good.

the question is, IS it worse / better than anything else?
>>
>>34349903
With your dumb as logic there is no reason to even use sights. Adjustable sights have no bearing on the shooters ability AT ALL.
>>
>>34350299
I'm afraid to do it cause I'm not 100% sure if it's the gun or if it's me being a shit shot. I'm going to have someone I know is good try it first. I hate to make permanent changes like filing the post... and you shouldn't have to, thus adjustable sights

I have a Governor with fixed sights and I have no clue how to use them if you put the white dot in the rear grove it shoots low. So now I just kinda guess.
>>
>>34350568
>you find the thing shooting low and to the left, good luck getting that adjusted, there's only Kentucky Windage for you.
Or you just learn to stop flinching.
>>
>>34349810
>>34349815

I prefer Iron sights.

I actually refuse to buy a rifle without Iron sights, unless it's an AR with a long enough rail for flip ups.
>>
>>34349810
They are cool, but there are so few people left who understand how to regulate them.
>>
75% of the reason why adjustable sights were prevalent was because fixed sights were often incredibly low profile and hard to see when trying to shoot quickly after drawing. Think GI 1911 sights for semi autos and the ones in OPs pic for revolvers. With adjustable sights you often got a white outline rear with a red ramp front sight, far easier to shoot than the tiny fixed sights which were even worse in lower light situations.

The advantage of fixed sights are that they're less likely to snag on clothing, but disliking fixed sights because you're worried about having to adjust them all the time is retarded
