>>
>>34347975

Okay buds. I'll give you your (You) because I feel charitable tonight.

I live in Canada. We are limited to 5 round mags for centerfire semi autos.

Ruger conveniently provides short 5 round mags with the Mini that sit flush with the receiver.

Aesthetically this doesnt please me.

It is difficult to find larger Ruger steel mags up here but they do exist (pinned 5/10, 5/20, 5/30 mags). Also they are expensive.

The first geb Tapco mini mags were total shit. Based on my research these new 2nd gen variants with steel inserts on the mag catch work flawlessly and have no know issues.

The more you know.
>>
>>34348383

Having to use limited capacity magazines still doesn't justify using shit Tapcos. The lack of availability of inexpensive quality mags is yet another reason to not buy a Mini 14.

At least there's cheap surplus here. I enjoy shooting my sks
>>
>>34351911
If you ever get an RPAL, the Chinese made AR15 rifles are actually pretty affordable and good (you could save up over time), and just a furniture swap away from being real close to an M16A1 style rifle, combine that with 10rd pistol magazines and magwedges being available (so 10+10+1 capacity), and you could some day have a pretty decent rifle in spite of Canada laws.

Being AR15s, they can also be kitted out however you feel like.

Can anyone redpill me on AK mag accepting SKS's, and how easy or difficult stock swaps are? Thumbhole Norincos scratch my wooden spacegun itch and I'm getting tempted. The only problem is, while I'm an Alaskafag, my parents are CA and I can't be 100% sure I wont have to move back a little while for practical purposes. The hope would be to swap stocks to be featureless compliant and keep my free state thumbhole around. How difficult is this to do?

Pic semi related. I'd love one, but a swap like that I imagine is out of my league for certain

T. Someone with no idea what it entails

So do I. I'm looking at Izhmash 1988 kits and pricing out how much the build is going to cost. I'm tired of ARs and thinking I'm going to sell off all but one, including my Block II clone.
>>
>>34354334
like 2 grand including the kit. I highly advise you to find a competent gunsmith. VERY FEW 'smiths can make an ak
>>
>>34348527

Having few non keltec, non AR-variant 5.56 rifles available to you is a great reason to buy one though.
>>
>>34354723
2 grand for the kit or the build? Every kit I've found has been $620 and receivers are a couple hundred. A new barrel from Kvar is $249. That's about a grand and I don't think anyone is going to charge me $1k to build it.
>>
>>34353092
It's an SKS-M
takes AK mags from the factory but not very well, the mag well is attached to the wood not the receiver and mags take a bit of wiggling to force in and out

There are factory made SKS rifles, as well as properly converted original SKS rifles which have a proper catch and magwell for real AK mags, as well as the bolt being modified for AK mags.

The SKS-M and SKS-D both take AK mags, but last time I checked those aren't the actual designation for either. Kinda like a "Krinkov" AK. It's just what we called em here in it stuck. One should be in a regular stock and the other should iirc have a shorter barrel but a 40 mile long thumbhole stock

They did. They lightened it, fixed the shitty stock, and made it easier to maintain. It's called the 806 Bren 2. The 805 only came to the states so CZ could sell off their now worthless 805 stock after numerous complaints from their military contracts.

Literally not a right. Any examination of the criminal code and legal precedent shows clearly and definitively that the government can outlaw your access to firearms, other than legal antiques. If it can be taken from you, it is by definition not a right but a privilege.

Should I get an SKS or a Mini-14 while I do time in a good goy prison state?
7.62x39 vs 5.56x45 is too hard for me to choose.
>>
>>34369300
I'd get an SKS purely because of the fact that the Mini-14 is downright overpriced for what it is.
>>

You can get a Mini-14 for less than $700 and it will shoot far tighter groupings while having detachable magazines.

Not that the SKS is a bad rifle, mind you.

Marlin Camp Carbine
They were 9mm and .45ACP carbines that took S&W Model 59 magazines and 1911 magazines respectively.

Rather pleasant plinkers, standard they come in a classic wood stock, but the thing is that they had a neoprene buffer to cushion the bolt as it hit the back of the receiver, this buffer can dry up and shatter over time, and because of this, the impact of the bolt against a ruined or missing buffer actually goes through the receiver and into the wooden stock, which will begin to crack and split from this force.

As a result, it's not uncommon to find them with cracked stocks, because people just don't know, and there aren't a lot of replacement stocks for them around short of the Tapco stocks and the Muzzelite bullpup kits, and while Tapco furniture is only ever mediocre at best, this beats Muzzelite abortions by lightyears. The Tapco stocks don't seem to need the buffer to survive, but the Muzzelite kits are so flimsy I would expect the rifle to beat the shit out of it.

Thankfully, replacement buffers for the Camp 9 and Camp 45 are available, so if you find one with an intact stock, get that buffer replaced and you have a perfectly good plinking rifle.
Otherwise, you would have to make a brand new stock for it, which is possible if you know how to wood work.

Here's one in a Tapco stock, next to the wooden stock and a 5900 series S&W compact.
The 9mm carbine will also take 5900 series S&W magazines, by the way.

They have a little bit of a cult following.

Depends on what kind of AR you're looking at, if you don't mind Springfield being shitcocks, the Saint is overall a pretty solid rifle worth it's price.
Or you could build an even better AR15 from parts on a budget of $800, and it'll be a pretty solid one.

To me, it feels like a military rifle that never quite was.
Especially if you look at the Mini-14GB and AC556, featuring bayonet lugs and flash hiders.

It's a lot like the M14, except intermediate, thus being a much more sensible infantry weapon.
