ODST's and orbital bombardment are stupid too. There is no hiding in space. Further, it takes 1.5 hours to orbit the earth in low orbit. Because of the way orbital mechanics works, if you want to go over a certain location, you have to run your engine on the opposite side of the planet to set course. This means your target will have at least a 45 minute warning that you're coming.

>Navy and Air Force are merged, they inevitably need to step on each other's toes anyways, and pool resources; infantry guard ships, bases, and have an elite marine reaction force
>Marines become their own branch, are given a little of everything to capitalize on being a fast-reaction force (I know they aren't but that's all they could ever be and they get all the action recruits) but all machines are for the movement or support of light infantry tactics
>Space Corps is mostly a bureaucratic branch because the only reason they need to exist is to force the other branches to adapt with the times rather than fuck around with money on dumb stuff, will basically fade away after the other branches get with the times
