In movies from the 1980s (and very early 90s) they made a point to give at least a good 3 second shot of the actor holding the gun with lots of detail visible.

GA Lists the R9 with a DB attenuation of 31.5 and it seems 9x19 guns pre-suppressed are around 160 DB (couldn't find individual numbers for sub sonic vs supersonic ammo), SilencerCo doesn't list attenuation but says the average DB of a 9mm is 127 with the can.

Numbers seem pretty tight to me, I feel that 130 DB is still pretty damn loud, sure you don't need muffs, but you start mag dumping in human occupied areas and someones going to take notice.

Now I want to run an impromptu soft science dry/wet experiment...
