I recently inherited a heavily sporterized kar98k. Drilled. New barrel. New sights. Rechambered. And that last point is where my question comes in. It's rechambered in 30-06. I'm wondering if I can use any sort of stripper clips for it. Apparently the 1903 springfield used stripper clips insanely close to mausers. To the point of patent infringement. But for 30-06. Could I use those for loading?
And what exactly could I do to make the old girl feel more like the warhorse she used to be. Partial desporterization steps and options.
She took her turn fighting the red bear. Then her turn serving a soldier in feeding his family under Old glory and I think I owe it to her as his grandson.

I might be wrong, but since 8mm Mauser and .30-06 are both based off the 7x57 Mauser cartridge, they should be similar enough. According to Wikipedia info, there's only a .003 inch difference in the rim diameter between .30-06 and 8mm Mauser, so 8mm clips should probably work just fine.
Why not just use M98 clips? .30-'06 will fit in 8x57 M98 clips.

you should be able to use basic 8mm k98 clips. I use them on my .308 Israeli Mauser and it works great. here's the ones I bought. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M20UJQD/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Thanks guys. All great recommendations.
Anything for remilitarizing and desporterizing her?
Also the thing has the weirdest muzzle break.

Gun is fine. Sure it's sporterized but it's a classy walnut stock. There's nothing bubba'd about it. Leave it as is, it's a beautiful gun.

Understandable. I'll probably keep it pretty close to how it was when my grandfather had it. But only modifications I can put on and take off without further permanently changing the rifle. Kar98k stock. Maybe actually get some kar98k sights because the ones on this one practically aren't there. Replace the safety with an original. Not a brownells mark 2 (things just dangerous)

Pointless; the barrel has been replaced, the original sights removed, a sling swivel fitted to the barrel, and the receiver drilled-and-tapped for two separate types of mounts. Leave it as-is and spend the money on buying an unaltered Kar.98k.

>Kar98k stock.
Probably won't fit with the sporter-profile barrel on there. Seriously, just get a whole other rifle.
I wouldn't do a thing to it. I don't like sporterizing guns and especially not a kar98, but atleast they didn't shit on it and did a decent sporter job. Keep it exactly how it is.

Looks really nice to be honest, take it to a gunsmith to rid yourself of that hideous muzzle brake and leave the rest

You would need Mauser clips, not US ones.
