Why dont we see 9mm automatic? It is a far superior round than the 9mm Lugar.

Because it doesn't exist beyond prototypes

shooting rimmed revovler cartridges

Isn't the desert eagle really finicky? Probably not the best example.
>>34338065
Because it's a solution in search of a problem.
>>34338347
It is.
Tapered cases exist for a reason.
>>34338067
iirc the curve is to help feeding
>>34338347
LAR Grizzly is a better example.
There's a reason that even Colt didn't offer their repeating rifles in .45 Colt and instead chambered them for .44 WCF, and it's because straight-walled cartridges don't reliably extract.

.380, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, 10mm, .38 Super and probably several others all use straight walled cases, and all work wonderfully in semi automatic pistols. The problem isn't that 9mm Auto is any harder to extract than anything else. The problem is that it's entire marketing angle is "Exactly the same performance as, but not interchangeable with that thing that everyone on the planet already uses."

The only one of those that doesn't have a very slight taper is the .38 Super, and surprise surprise, no one uses it anymore.
it's the 45 GAP of 9mm's. Not even stuffing it in a Glock and calling it perfect can breathe life into it.

The DEagle's gas system demands you firmly grasp it and punishes those with poor form or little handlets by refusing to feed.
>>34338895
A lot of target shooters use it, there are many 1911s chambered in it
>>34338524
I thought it was because the bottleneck helped seal the chamber from powder fouling
