Well. I bet he has googled this topic and found the 10 000 search results warning against the dangers of knives as self defense tools based on nothing but urban myths and old sayings, plus what you're linking. My guess is simply that he wanted to get to know our personal opinions on which knives we like, and which we would not recommend for self defense.
I have no experience with this myself, but I guess a common sense answer would be "whatever you're carrying". That means a knife that you will carry. A knife that won't get in the way, this resulting in you leaving it at home. A knife that I own, that is very light and thin, and which I would recommend, is the Benchmade 530 Pardue. I'd logically recommend the 531 too, of course.
