your justification for those wars is that people were being killed? Isn't it funny how iraqi freedom did fuck all to stop people from being killed, and the vietnam war killed literally hundreds of thousands of civilians.

It was decided that rather than have the military help the RCMP in JTF1 there should be a dedicated military unit that could draw on RCMP experience if they needed to do police action.

SERT is simply the Canadian way to say SWAT.
JTF1 was an RCMP unit tasked with anti terrorism duties that could draw on the military for assistance, hence the Joint Task Force.
The military is better equipped to do this so JTF2 is a military group that can draw on the RCMP for investigative purposes.

Schmidt & Bender 5-25x56 PMII
Nightforce NXS 8–32x56 Mil-dot
The last one was used for this kill. They also use the Hornady A-MAX .50 which is the best .50 in the world

Nah that's wrong. The RCMP counter Terrorism unit was called SERT before jurisdiction of the unit was handed over to the military. This was due to there being a better pool of applicants to draw upon as well as discussions of the police regularly utilizing paramilitary tactics and use of force.

>SERT is simply the Canadian way to say SWAT.
Names for rapid action tactical units vary depending upon the service but the overwhelming designation is "ERT" (Emergency Response Team) not "SERT". SERT was a single unit hence why it was called "Special".

I have a close family friend in JTF2 and I asked him one time what JTF1 was and he sort of shrugged and said it was some coalition task force in Aghanistan that is no longer active.

Smells fishy. Data collected from other forums:

Ballistic calculator says 47.7 mils of drop for a 750 gr A-Max at that range on those conditions.

Let's say he had a 40 MOA scope base, that's 11.6 mils.
S&B PMII 5-25 has 26 mils of adjustment. Now the reticle has holdover subtensions, but if the scope is cranked to it's maximum elevation, the bell housing shadow is going to occlude some part of the sight picture. From what I've seen, this happens at 2-3 mils from extreme edge. So let's say the shooter was able to take advantage of the entire vignette-free adjustment range of the scope; 26-6=20 mils, and use most of an H58 reticle's 15 mils of holdover; 12 mils.

That's 43.6 mils physically available PLUS holdover, and that's being generous.

Where are the other 4.1 mils coming from? Without more adjustment and with the target not visible outside the bottom edge of the scope field of view, what's he aiming at, the sky? This doesn't even take into account unfathomable wind patterns, mirage and every other unobservable variable which needs to be considered at this distance.

IMO he just lobbed them in there one after another somehow without spooking the target(s), one accidentally hit and was observed, and Bob's your auntie.

Put 750 grain A-Max, 2721 fps, 4400 ft altitude, 120 degrees, 42% humidity, 1,000 meter zero (not 100) into a ballistic calculator.
Look up Schmidt & Bender PMII 5-25 published specifications to see adjustment range = 26 mils.
1 mil = 3.44 MOA so 11.6 mil = ~39.9 MOA scope base
Source for 2-3 mil scope shadow seen on PMII 5-25:
http://forum.snipershide.com/forum/sniper%C2%92s-hide%C2%AE-armory-supply/sniper-s-hide-rifle-scopes/123666-the-shadowing-effect-seen-in-s-b-5-25x56-pmii

When I put the above ballistic information into my calculator I got pic related, an EXTRA 2 mils that need to be explained. So I'll give the original guy's number more credibility than mine. Lots of people have run calcs, some coming up with as much as 95 mils of drop.

Is a 1,000 meter zero normal? Probably not, just giving the benefit of the doubt yet again. But when you put it all together, with a lot of flexibility and a lot of suspended disbelief, it still doesn't add up.
>>
>>34336519
Could just be that this team didn't just use a 40 MOA scope. Maybe higher or some special snowflake one with laser rangefinder. We're talking about a special forces team here.

No a swat team is an ERT team here

SERT was the special shoot to kill version

They got folded when it turned out a clusterfuck of jack assess failed the entire new expansion unit because they didn't want to lose special status, and then collectively shit themselves when they were put on a plane to Columbia to kill some guys (in a mock psychological test)

JTF2 was formed when they gave the military the job.

Source : my old man was in SERT

As far as I can tell JTF1 was just some name for a previous unit that wasn't special, basically they were trying to hide JTF2's importance.

Nah according to him it was just some task force for passing information, it wasn't a special operations unit. A task force typically isn't a unit it is just a large group of multiple nations that works towards a common goal, hence the name.

I did a bit more research and it looks like he was wrong anyways. Joint Task Force 1 was Operation Crossroads where they tested nuclear weapons. Joint Task Force 2 was a designation given to the Canadians for their special operations unit because it was a non-descriptive name for a highly secretive unit.

Something important to remember about secret squirrel like special ops and CIA/CSIS shit is that they traditionally like to name stuff with really mundane names even though they do high speed shit. An example of this would be the CIA team devoted to assassinating Castro being named the "Health Alteration Committee" or something like that. They were also known to give black ops units names something like the "Office of Battlefield Estimates".
