It will go on as long as there is an East/West divide. There is no end in sight. The Russians can use it to put pressure on the US/EU by turning up the heat. However, it can be argued that the Ukranians can also do the same to some extent.

It is trench warfare. There are no aircraft other than drones. Tanks are not used any more. Artilery is used but it's being rotated in and out. Currently the fighting is heavy machine gun bursts and mortars. This conflict could go on for 20 years.

I'll post a few pics to bump.

Found this on a guys facebook page I have been following. He does alot for the volenteer groups that do drone recon missions. They want to put an ATGM on this. They test fired a few rockets off it a few days ago.

The civilian groups involved with this are really interesting. When the army was getting the worst of it in the meat grinder, the volenteers took alot of the slack. Most are good guys. If I have time later Ill post more about it.

It will be stable until the Ukrainian forces proper start to into counter-insurgency and replenish their heavier stocks. At that point, it will become much more expensive for Russian-back proxies to fight the Ukies. They had initiative early on since the Ukies sucked hard, but the Ukrainians have done a better job since and will only consolidate and harden.

Why do you retards think Russia collapse would lead to anything? Russia sells weapon and helps to both sides and most of separatists are locals and mercenaries. This war will stop when it stops being profitable for Ukrainian and "People Republics" governments.
>>
>>34325765
Personally, I think it won`t end, untill the Ukraine will be completely scuttled. Simply, because no one of major political players is interested in ending this war. US need the proxy to put pressure on Russia, and idiots, to do the dirty work. Russia simply can`t accept the whole lode of butthurt military grade equipped criminals (Yes, I`m talking about Ukrainian army in most cases). Even Ukraine government is interested in the conflict, because it is a good excuse to whatever fuckups it make. The only ones, not interested in conflict, are common folk, but they are not the ones who choose.

It's no coincidence that peace-talks regard Ukraine took place shortly before Russia announced their intervention in Syria.

>>
>>34325765

I could see it ending when eventually Ukraine becomes a stable state after a decade or two and its army becomes more modernized and establishes a good NCO and officer corps.

After the events of Debaltseve, it is quite clear that the Ukrainian military needs to reorganize itself and build itself up. That takes time. The good news however is that by having an active warzone in the country and rotating units through it, they can gain practical experience, and this will eventually result in a professional army, though it may take some time.

It is not unfathomable to see a removal, or more likely a reduction of DPR activity in Donbass at some point in the near future as a result of either indirect pressure from the Ukrainian military or their actions.
>>
>>34325765

>Do you think that the Ukrainian Civil war will ever end or will it continue to go on in a stalemate?

The war in the Donbass region is now a frozen conflict with occasional mortar and artillery exchanges but no major frontline movements.
And it's probably going to stay that way since Russia needs Ukraine to be internally destabilised through a long and protracted conflict.
In the end Russia wants the Donbass to be reintegrated into Ukraine as a kind of trojan horse.
A reintegrated Donbass would reintroduce millions of pro-Russian voters into the electoral system and block any attempts by Kiev to distance itself further from Russia.
It's the same tactic they tried in Georgia with Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

What Ukraine needs to do to prevent this is the following:

-Stop all transfer payments to the Donbass. (done)
-Stop all trade across the contact line. (done)
-Disconnect the Donbass from it's water and electricity network. (almost completed)
-Make it impossible for them to vote in Ukraine. (more or less done)

This would be costly for Ukraine but it would also burden Russia with almost all the costs of running the Donbass region.
And it would be the only way that Kiev can continue it's current policy of leaving Russian-led institutions and joining European ones.

So basically Kiev needs to give up the Donbass to save the rest of Ukraine.

No one is talking about full membership in the near term.

What are you talking about? The Turkish economic boom of the past 2 decades would have been impossible without it's close association with the EU. (pic related)
>>
>>34330131

The part that really sting Russia is that Ukrainian right wing militias are the same old local nazis that Germany raised once, and that they were so proud of wiping out, now not only did they not commify the entire region, thus stripping them of national identity and leaving them ripe for annexation, they now present a clear ideological adversary to their own brand of nationalist right, and we all know two far right countries cannot coexist.
>>
>>34330670
>What Ukraine wants is the association agreement and visa free travel.
Can't wait for a hundred thousand ukranian immigrants to join our hundred thousand polish ones! EU is finished, sooner the better.

I'll revise my statement and say that Ukraine is doing self detrimental things because EU and the west is wooing them, also to a large degree because of corrupt politicians robing the country blind, sweeping inflation etc. Their best interest would be to stabilize relations with Russia.

Turkey wanted, but would never have gotten admission into the EU, that's what I meant by dangling carrot, though I agree it hasn't been detrimental to them.

I suppose you're British?
You're not going to get swamped by Ukrainians, Ukraine having a visa free travel treaty with the EU does not mean that they get work permits.
That would only be possible with free movement of people and only the EU+EEA and Switzerland have that.
But then again, when did the Brits ever understand the EU treaties?

>EU is finished, sooner the better.
Yeah, I remember a lot of Brits saying that last year after Brexit, but let's do a quick recap of what happened in the past year.
Every single party that went into a european election with an anti-EU agenda lost,
Le Pen/FN were crushed by a candidate and party that were openly pro-EU,
Geert Wilders will continue just being a clown in parliament,
The AFD underperformed in state elections.
Meanwhile in Britain there are pretty large separatist/nationalist movements in Scotland and NI that are calling for independance/joining Ireland.
Your political system is in chaos, there's literally a hung parliament.
The UK posted the weakest Q1 growth figures in the entire EU and is suffering higher inflation than the Eurozone because of the Brexit-induced devaluation of the pound.
At some point you have to realize that Britain isn't an Empire anymore, it's just another European country with considerable interdependancy with the EU.
But i guess the Brexiteers will only realize that after the Brexit negotiations end with their utter humiliation.
>>
>>34330862
>I suppose you're British?
Britain has a population of 65 million, my country is barely 5 million. You see and hear polaks on the streets everywhere, at the store, new neighbours etc.

EU is going to collapse whether or not the UK manages to do this transition well, it might take some time but it is not sustainable as it is. We need separate currencies again, especially for the poorer countries.

>Dilbert as a source
believe it or not, western sanctions (as well as the low price of oil) are slowly taking effect. Russia's been running a budget defecit for the last few years, they've been dipping into their sovereign wealth fund to make up for the shortfall but it's not enough, either they'll have to start grabbing cash from their state pension pot or take major loans, neither or which Russia particularly wants to do. The last in particular would be not just humiliating (dismantles the years of debt reduction Putin worked to pull off in the 2000s) but would weaken Russia's position far more than the USA's debt - the USA has a large economy that will bring the world down with it if it falls, as well as plenty of rich allies willing to lend to them, whereas Russia's allies are a bit poor and shit and taking loans from China would compromise them far more than the USA taking loans from China, as a) China and the USA are economically interdependent to a much greater extent than China and Russia, and b) China could realistically invade parts of Russia if they wanted to (whether it would be a successful invasion is debatable, but they could certainly grab parts of Siberia before Russia can react, whereas the USA has a few thousand kilometres of water separating Guam from China, let alone their mainland.

And face economic collapse from over-extending a weak economy and alienating themselves even further from every European country. Ukraine situation isn't all bad for Putin, but there is no way he could 'end' it just like that.

More realistically it drags out, then there's a chance it flares up again once Putin dies and there's a large power vacuum to exploit, which means a lot of unexpected things could happen.

Serious question here, why are Americans so triggered about the Ukraine situation? The world of global politics and wars use to be so interesting and now it seems any little scuffle between states sends everyone into a rage. Who really gives a shit about Russia and Ukraine going at it? As far as I see it either the Ukraine could repel Russia's advancements or collapse, but it's between those two countries.
