If the United States were to launch an all-out strike on North Korea, including land based, B-52 launched and submarine-launched ICBMs, and followed it up with massive carpet bombing after the first strike, how fast would it take to turn NK into a parking lot? If the first strike was massive enough, would NK have any hope of retaliation or otherwise defending itself?

>how fast

Hours

>retaliation?

Begging for mercy

They could retaliate by leveling Seoul, unless you'd take out all of their artillery pieces simultaneously.
>>

About 3 days and 50 minutes.

You assume that after the first strike that anyone would be loyal is to the regime long enough to do serious damage, once Kim dies, another leader will take over, and negotiate the surrender to save his own life, and most of the military would defect.

Also the guys manning those art placements on the border would be flocking to the dmz en mass waving their uniforms and ditching their rifles, their entire army is conscription, it's just a bunch of peasants larping as soldiers.

Soldiers guarding the border already attempt defections to South Korea all the time.

50% dud rate and not every artillary piece on the dmz can reach Seoul (of which the norther part of is filled with ethnic Chinese), and the more they shoot Seoul the less military targets they shoot the more counter battery fire they take

During the Korean War, we literally killed a quarter of the North Korean population, through bombing.

Reports from pilots were that there were zero buildings left in the North, and they were still bombing any target of opportunity that presented itself, or would just bomb already destroyed targets.

Those little shitbags were still thumbing their noses at us.

It's a retaliatory strike, meant to cause civilian casualties. It's one of the only cards they have left, they can fuck up Seoul so bad in a couple of hours that it's not worth to start a war.

You'd be a fool to underestimate your enemy and simply count on your own superiority and the idea of the enemy defecting en masse.

Seoul is aproximately 35 miles from the DMZ, Norks have Koksans and KN-09's that can reach it. They also have a fuckton of different short-, medium- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles.

They sure can't fit a nuke into them but hey, you can fuck of SK capital with regular warheads too.
>>
>>34325275
Imagine the refugee masses that would overwhelm SK. Plus the chance of nork insurgency attacks in the south afterwards.
>>
>>34325275
why would they launch the submarine missiles first? they're made for second strike capabilities

also, no, they can't hope to ever do anything if the US launches an reasonable amount of nukes
>>
>>34325588
Let's fantasize about counter-insurgency in the korean peninsula. What's the battlefield terrain like? Is there potential for mountain-to-mountain / long range engagements like we ran into in the sandbox, or will we finally be working inside a more urban environment like we thought we would for the past few decades? Would this be a proxy war with Russia, China, or both?

Retaliation would be immediate from Russia and probably the PRC.

Not because they want to avenge the DPRK, but because all Ivan Vatnikov would see at his console in the Strategic Rocket Forces HQ is a massive US first strike lofting towards Eurasia. They wouldn't wait to see where the ICBMs land.
