Why so many guns?
Are they compensating for something?

They don't have the budget for a carrier defense fleet, so they allocated space on the carrier for defense.

Yep they are compensating for a rusting away naval force
The Kuznetzov is technicaly speaking an aviation cruiser and is able to operate indendently and thus, why it has so many defensive weapons.

>is able to operate indendently
*with a tug

> tug memes
the best part is how NATO ended up tugging its ships when following the Kuz
>>34318017
Because they want to shoot down many incoming missiles and not be overwhelmed like American ships would be
Russia has no experience in carrier warfare so they get retarded ideas like "hey lets stick anti-ship missiles on a carrier...It'll make it EVEN MORE BADASS"
All this does is take up room and confuse roles, Carriers aren't surface combatants. But given Russia will never have a proper carrier battle group I guess they have no choice.

I guess it won't have a tug any-more, since it's going into drydock for "modernization" just like the Admiral Nakhimov "Mozernization" that has been ongoing for more than a decade

Russian carrier is literally buran
It's a stupid concept and a waste of money but they dont wanna be in a position of "America has 10 and we have none"
