Why are we not demanding American manufacturers to make good AKs? Why do they always make the same old AK? Why don't they make better AKs with features we want? I want a thumb selector, a sealed system, and a recoil mitigation system like in the AK107. Amerishit manufacturers should take advantage of this situation and make AKs great again. Trump sure as shit didn't.

Gonna be brutally honest with you.

Because the good companies are putting all their manufacturing capability into ARs. That's where the big bucks are. There are single pieces of ARs that cost more than an entire AK. And they've gotten very good at it due to the competition. An unmodified fucking M&P sport, the lowest end AR from a company that's not even that great can be a sub-MOA shooter. Even the lowest end ARs are at least good firearms, and mechanically sound. You can go as low as paying $400 and STILL get a working gun.

You have one company with a good reputation, Arsenal, and they're not perfect and just putting together parts kits.

So what are you going to do, not buy an AK? Pay all that money for an Arsenal? No? Then pay up, bitch, that's their attitude. Because they think they have no competition, and they're right. And what's worse is if you boycott these companies, they will not improve. They'll just die and the market will dry up completely. Honestly there are only two things that will save the US AK market: Russian imports (nope), or the big US manufacturers getting into making AKs (even less likely, why buy/make tooling just to make less money? tooling that stands no chance of being useful for government contracts, unlike shit for making AR parts?). Otherwise the status quo remains, and the situation continues to deteriorate.

You are in debt or your business is in debt? $100,000 of debt isn't game over for a business with $1M in A/R. It would be weird if the business wasn't in debt. But if that's personal debt and you have unsecured loans generating interest at warp speed then you're fucked.

>>34316893
This. Sadly, Russian AK is of poor quality. There is even a running joke among soldiers, "Every AK is not like the other" which is a reference to the poor manufacturing standards. It's a very crude weapon, to get a job done but not to excel at it. Fuck, it never even meant to carry a scope, so you have to do with some half-assed measures that ultimately make maintenance very uncomfortable.

>>34316970

Thankfully I snagged mine last year after seeing what happened to the 107fr, which I bought a few months before they went away.

I think I'll just worry about ammo and mags for now, maybe pick up a nice kit and a Radom barrel, get it built, enjoy shooting my AKs.
>>
>>34316847
Well the AR is a shit design and most people buy it because most people are stupid. I don't care if AKs aren't as cheap as they used to be, the design isn't some perfect design that commands a lot of money. What I want to see made is guns that are closer to that "perfect" standard. Things that take the best of the AR and AK. I would be happy if there were a good, common, modernized AR 18 variant (currently waiting on the MSBS). Old arcane designs from the cold war just don't do it for me anymore. They shouldn't cost as much as manufacturers are asking, and they're asking those prices because you keep buying them, and you keep buying them because you're stupid. This is causing a stagnation of technology.

My biggest complaint with the vepr deal is no more factory V12 mags. I have my reasons for not owning any other Vepr firearms but what's been done is bullshit.
>>
>>34316970
Pretty much how I feel. When Trump was elected everyone was celebrating and going "the evil is defeated!" and all I could think was "we're living on borrowed time."

I'm glad I got my 74 build in today. At this point it's pretty much just more mags and ammo I intend to buy for both it and my Maadi, and a 1PN58 when the stars align and I get a deal on one. Everything else is going into NFA items and eventually a SCAR-17S, which was the one gun on my "guns I've always lusted after" list that I had written off on November 6 as "well, guess I'll never own one of those."

Everything Molot makes is banned from import. Saiga 12s didn't make it out from under the KC ban either.

On the flip side, China can still export shotguns. Supposedly there was some Chinese AK shotgun that made it stateside that bears a striking resemblance to current production Saiga 12s.

I'm thinking this myself. I have two AKs and am selling one. Not sure if I should buy another one (SLR107R) or get an AR. all this bullshit going on with Russia and from what we have seen in the past is seems like an AR would be a somewhat (future proof) rifle. Decisions, decisions.
>>
Next purchase.
>>
>>34318955
Depends what you want to do with it if you're worried about availability of ammunition get an AR.

Federal has the capability to make 7 x 39 but it's pretty much just hunting rounds right now.

I honestly couldn't tell you if we had ammunition bans if the domestic manufactures would pick up the slack and even if they did my gut feeling is we be talking 50 Cents a round.

As always buy it cheap and stack it really fucking deep applies.

I have a feeling we're not going to see an outright import ban on ammunition I just don't think the political capital is there but then again anything could happen.
>>
>>34319015
A blanket Russian ammo ban would do more harm to American shooters and everyone who sells ammo than it would to the Russian government. Those factories would just start shipping that overrun to the middle east anyway.

Because, despite the memes, blacks, if you compare their homicide rates and other crime rates, are only proportionately shot by police in the same manner. They make up less than half of police shooting victims, while being 13% of the population, and committing half the homicides and over half of the violence crime in this country.

There are two main types of AK drums.
The one posted cant be opened and doesn't have a separate winding key, the spring is compressed by the lever and held tensioned by the rounds loaded in.

You're thinking of the ones with the opening back and spring release button.

If these sanctions pass, you'd better believe that the US domestic market will fill the void. Demand will still be there, and it will be greater than ever before. Prices are likely to be high, though.

Also, these sanctions wouldn't affect a Russian company opening a factory here and manufacturing everything from the ground up, like what Kalashnikov USA has been trying.

They've been trying since 2014 when the sanctions took effect initially (this current batch is just an expansion of those sanctions)
So far the only US company that's even ok is Palmetto State, but even so they're too new to know how they'll hold up long term.

No, however a Arsenal of Bulgaria and Cugir/Romarm both are periodically focusing on military contracts and not exporting as many, or any, of their commercial products like the SLR's and WASR's, respectively.

I felt the same way. I never did buy 545 at my lgs, but the 22lr there was double the price of the 7n6 crates I was buying.
One by one, over the decades, we've all missed out on cheap ammo. But I think we're at the point where "cheap surplus" is a thing of the past entirely.

And now I'm gonna get to play around with it a little before sending it off to be butchered

There's a lot of guns like these that I like and would like to own and play with for a while. Just can't have it all. Like the 20" .308 folders. Those are pretty cool imo. I'm just too much of a slave to collector shit.

Protip I've known a lot of people like this, they all have developed super weight problems. Metabolism hits a point and then normalizes and you'll still be eating the same amount you always have and suddenly you've gained 60 pounds in a bad way. Watch it.

I know, I'm cautious of that. But then there are also people like my coworker who drink soft drinks and smoke all day and never exercise, but stay skinny. He probably couldn't run a mile if a bear was chasing him, but at least he's not fat.

I do 3 sets aimed at 10 reps each of the most weight I can target on an ez curl bar every day at home. That's all I lift. I recently started running on the treadmill too because my cardio is terrible and I need cardio for MSW.

The ptr91 I have is really nice. I'd recommend it as a venture into 7.62x51. Only thing I'd say to replace is maybe the recoil spring and butt pad if your shoulder is skin and bones with no substance in between
>>
>>34324318

Romanian RPK, judging by the adjustable bipod. Either an AES-10B or a kit build.
>>
>>34324417
>>34324422
The guy said it was a kit build.

Any idea on how much it's worth?
I'd probably be trading an AR with knights armament RAS and some mosins for it.
How many mosins is the question.
>>
>>34324432
I wouldn't pay more than $500 for a kit built RPK built by a literally who builder and with no knowledge of its parts, and that's only because I'm confident I'd be able to cut it up and part it out of its a shitty build
>>
>>34324453
As a completely normal person with no ability to make my own, build my own kit, or cut anything up.
What would I probably be looking at?

>>34324475
Honestly without knowing who built it or any details other than "it's an RPK" I'd pass on it
>>
>>34324432
ask what barrel he used. This will determine the price. I still would not pay more than 500$.
>>
>>34324490
Thanks.

>>34324496
Aight, I'll report back on the barrel later.

I'm never sure whether to trust /akg/ or not because sometimes price estimates are spot on and sometimes they're lowballing at $500-600 less than every rifle I've seen locally.

Should I let all this news and panic drag me away from taking a chance and rolling on a used 104fr or should I just get a new 106fr while it is still an option? I know about the expensive mags but that won't be much compared to not having 5.45 ammo being imported. I am conflicted :(

Because people try to sell kit rifles from unknown builders for the same price as a known factory offering. They shoot down "lowballs" and it sits on Armslist for 18 months until someone with more money than sense buys it during a panic.

I'm the giant guy who sometimes posts a pic of himself holding a tiny WASR. How do you think it would work for me? I am used to the recoil of 203gr 54r in a 91/30.

What is the recoil like? My uncle has an AR10B repro that doesn't thump much harder than my WASR.
