How many of you declare your CPL when pulled over?

Only in states that require it. Which I don't frequent.
>>
Yes because it's required in my state and I can't be arsed to learn the rules of all other 50 states so I just err on the side of caution.

I keep my hands on the steering wheel at all times and politely inform the officer. Officers love that bootlicking shit. I honestly believe it makes the officer more likely to reduce your ticket or give you a warning.
>>
Duty to inform state.

Do you guys not know the laws that directly affect you? Fucking amateurs.
>>
Texas here so duty to inform.

I tell them I have a gun and jam my hands in my pockets real fast.
>>
Everytime im pulled over. Then I listen to the officer and don't act like an idiot. Its worked out pretty good so far.
>>
>>34314427
Duty to Inform state means I'm obligated to tell the officer when they walk up to my vehicle. So far, none of them have asked me to give them my sidearm, and I have had zero difficulties.

>>
>>34314427
I hand them my carry permit along with my drivers license when they initially approach. They usually ask where it is and I tell them while keeping my hands on the wheel. It's for both of our safeties, really.

The couple times I've been stopped I've gotten out of speeding tickets doing this. A little respect goes a long way considering the types of people these guys have to deal with on a daily basis. I live in MN near the cities btw. Caststeel was a fucking idiot.
>>
>>34314931

No it isn't, at 1:29 to 1:32 the cop asks, "Do you have you license and registration?" and Philando gives him his identification. Watch the video again.

>>34314940
Your behavior during a traffic stop is usually what saves you from a ticket. I personally rarely write anyone a hard copy for traffic court unless they have done something incredibly stupid or are driving uninsured.

Just act like a decent human being. 99% of my stops last about 20 seconds. "hello sir how are you today. The reason I pulled you over is because x. Can I see your dl and insurance. Cool, please get x fixed/stop doing x. Have a good day."

Jesus, doesn't matter if he was right and the guy was lying about being a John. He prevented the guy from informing him, got pissed when he realized he was at fault, threatened the prostitute with assault (on camera), and then, arguably threatened the perp with murder (also on camera), and then maybe even had the stones to not so subtly threaten his partner into being an accomplice.

Either the union or his supervisor needs to get that guy into anger management asap before he gets the feds and the media up that PDs ass.

Arbitrators are always chosen by the party with the most power, whether that means a police union in this context, or the hiring corporation in the case of work disputes. Sure, they might occasionally give a favorable result to the little guy to create the appearance of being impartial, but it's always a lie. Arbitrators invariably serve to give good results to the group that hired them.
>>
>>34316248
Because it is not only simply extremely courteous, but also a matter of life and death, be it yours or the officers.
The officer is also acting to protect his life as well as others. So it is best to keep the situation under the directive of the officer when handling lethal matters such as a firearm.

If you were dealing with someone who you knew had a firearm, and you didn't know their intentions, wouldn't you rather know they're every move beforehand so you could gauge where the situation is headed? That's why officers will direct you on what to do in this situation.

Never talk to a cop. Ask to see your lawyer.
You don't have to be an ass about it. Just get your point across and ask if you are under arrest. If you are ask to see your lawyer.

Don't talk to cops they are not your friend.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

I just remembered this from last year and again watching the video, this happened RIGHT OUTSIDE our state fair grounds (which is a huge cultural event). Those fucking niggers are going to ruin this too aren't they?
>>
>>34314993
This is the way to do it.

Handing your carry permit with your license immediately tells the cop you're not a felon, and you're not crazy, and let's him lead the situation with "are you carrying now?"
Instead of you starting with "I have a gun" and him going on the defensive with "where is it?"

You literally don't have to say anything until spoken to this way.
>>
>>34316663
Depends very much on the state.
>>
>>34314885
As an ex cop I can tell you that:
1) That cop shoudn`t be on the streets, he is too jumpy.
2) The wording is totally wrong, you say "don`t move" not "don`t pull that gun", because if you say the latter, the civilian will think "I`m not pulling my gun, I`m reaching for whatever the fuck I am reaching". The wording is key and that officer fucked up.

AZ fag here so constitutional carry and don't have to inform police. I've only been pulled over once and decided to inform the officer I was open carrying, and asked how he'd like me to proceed. He took me out of the car and disarmed me. Only wanted my I'd though to verify if I was old enough to carry (only 18). Afterwards he gave me back the firearm and just told me to have a nice day. A little excessive but I don't really care. No ticket and the officer seemed happy that I decided to declare my firearm.

If there is any reason at all why a cop might find out that you have a weapon on you, you have already fucked up.
>>

>>
>>34314857

>>34317706
This is a divide we have caused our self by looking at the issue as an "us vs them" We need to remember that they are people, and so are we, Both parties need to have a measure of courtesy we've forgotten it seems. It's not "right" but it is what it is. Better than yelling " AM I BEING DETAINED?!" at them like some folk try.
>>
>>34314605
I tried that & it's 50/50 for me. Either cops dig it or they don't even notice and I'm polite & I dress respectable but I ALWAYS get cited.

I have a question. Do they ask you to step out of the vehicle? I firmly but politely refuse to step out. Everyone tells me I should just shut up & do it. I don't like it because I feel like then they want to start pressing their authority. If I go out, I'll get frisked. If I go out, then he'll want to go in and search my vehicle. Now I'm not a criminal. I don't carry anything illegal but I still don't like LE treated me like a criminal and looking for anything to put me away for good. Pull me over and give me a ticket for whatever and that's it. I don't have to answer where I've been or what I'm doing. This isn't an investigation on me...

Several months ago I got arrested for driving with no front license plate.

Long story short:
>pulled over for no front license plate
>refuse to answer any questions about where I've been or where I'm going or if I have drugs or weapons in the vehicle (I didn't have anything)
>just give me my damn citation
>asked to step out to because "he needs to speak with me momentarily" (verbatim because I recorded the interaction)
>refuse, tell him he can speak with me right there
>leaves me alone and goes to back to his vehicle
>calls back up
>two patrol cars plus K-9 unit comes as back up within ten minutes
>extremely fat guy with a tactical vest wielding a shotgun, flashbangs, taser, enter rear view mirror
>comes back & asks me to step out
>refuse
>officer goes back to fat man & they talk
>comes again
>raises his voice "step out"
>refuse
>"STEP OUT!"
>refuse
>goes back & they talk again
>comes back & tells me I'm under arrest
>are you for real?
>"driving with no front license plate is an arrestable offense so step out"
>fuck, step out and get arrested
>they spend about 53 minutes searching my vehicle
>find nothing
>come back
>"I got your cellphone and keys for you buddy"

What state did this abuse of power take place in? Btw you have to obey legal orders from them or it's obstruction or deliquescent or some made up legal bullshit. Homicide rate in 2014 was the lowest it's been since 1963. Ditto for number of officers feloniously killed (data only goes back to 1970 though).

How low of a shooting rate do we have to get to before the officer and I can look at each other in a routine traffic stop as two guys from the same town, both just doing their jobs?

I highly disagree with "duty to inform" states. Not only does that seem like the equivalent of a mandatory search, it's a good way for people to get shot if they aren't very articulate at explaining that they have a firearm. Cop hears "gun," cop reverts to piss-poor training which has taught him to pull the trigger as quickly as possible in three seconds after "recognizing a threat" while yelling "PUT DOWN THE GUN!!" (even when the gun is in the glove compartment.)

That said, in my state I have the option of handing my permit to the officer with my DL and letting him control the discussion (they're almost always cool about that, because they know that to get a concealed permit you aren't a convicted felon), or if I'm not CC but have one in the glove box I can say "my vehicle registration is in the glove box, but I'd prefer if you get it because I have a lawfully owned firearm there." (Their answer is almost always to say "okay, just leave the glove box closed," and don't even bother to look at my registration.)

As an aside, if I'm asked "you got any guns, drugs, or anything illegal in your car?" I can just respond "no." I'm under no obligation to inform the officer of any of that, and he's the one lumping a lawful exercise of my 2A rights with a lot of illegal behavior.

I want to be pro-police, as I appreciate a lot of what they do. I just wish that more of them had good 2A ethics instead of the attitude that they should be the only people allowed to have a gun.

>>
>>34322889
Not true. We used to call it rookie behavior - hypervigilant, borderline cowardly, scared and reaching for the pistol response. But go to any police firearms training, and it's 90% how fast you can draw as soon as there's a "threat." Find a published training that during range time focuses more than 10% on de-escalating and "don't draw" situations. You won't. There's classroom training that boringly whines at you about how cops get hauled in front of juries that just don't understand what they have to deal with, and then there's "BAD GUY! GUN! SHOOT!!" range training. Unfortunately, too many of us conservatives are also statists who are quick to excuse stupid cop choices and justify them with "he had to make a split-second decision." Yeah, I don't mourn for the jackasses who are actively resisting with violence or have a firearm waving it around and get shot. But I'm pretty skeptical about a lot of shootings that they get away with out of "fear for officer safety."

Too many of the trainings I've seen encourage cops to act stupidly. I've seen taser training that specifically tells an officer or deputy to keep yelling "STOP RESISTING!" throughout the time the taser is being deployed, and if struggling with a suspect, to keep yelling "DON'T GRAB MY GUN!" This gets almost comical in court when the dashcam video shows neither was happening. It's just a response to the training, and it's obvious the training is used as a means to affect the perception by another observer (or someone watching footage later that may or may not capture everything). Like yelling "stop hitting me" right before you sucker punch someone.

Think of the standard that you, a citizen, would be held to if you used force against someone. Now think of the standard cops are held to. Can you seriously tell me that if you shot someone in "self defense" yet admittedly they didn't attack you and you never saw a gun, you think you'd skate a homicide charge because you were "in fear"?
>>

Why do you get so pissy when you pull me over for some minor violation, I'm respectful and have no criminal record, but you still ask to search my vehicle and I don't give consent? Why does that set you off like I just called your mother a whore?

After having dealt with this three times in the past couple of years, I've come to the conclusion that you're trained to make stops mainly for the purpose of finding actual crime, and you're upset that I politely denied you that opportunity. Why get worked up about it? Why get red-in-the-face threatening? Why push the issue? You don't exactly instill faith that I could disclose the fact that I have a legal firearm without risking you going off the deep end.

Grew up massively pro-police. After a few encounters of having a cop actively yell at me and question me and threaten me because he desperately wants to search my car (a 2004 bone stock Toyota Camry, by the way), I can tell you that the day I sit on a jury I won't be trusting the police version of any event anymore.

>>
>>34323689
I'm not drilling holes into my bumper cover to appease your state, sorry. All states should get rid of front plates, they do nothing. They aren't even lit when it's dark.
>>
>>34323340
No front plate is not a crime, it's a civil infraction. No probable cause for detainment ensues beyond the time to write a citation, and no valid search incident to arrest ever develops.

Because of this, there is no "lawful order" to be given that permits police to require that a driver exit his vehicle without reasonable suspicion or probable cause, and without a lawful order, there can be no crime for refusing to obey it.

Just as a quick example, if you're pulled over for speeding and a cop tells you to spit out your gum, put out your cigarette, or turn off your radio, these are reasonable requests. Reasonable requests do not equate to lawful orders, however. Cops get so used to everyone following commands that they think everyone HAS to follow every command.

>>
>>34323701

The registration plate is compliance with your state law and has universal reciprocity.

It's why you can't get pulled over for driving on an out of state plate.

The forward/rear rule applies as well. For states with both, one of the easiest ways to single out out-of-state drivers for stops and searches if they think it's necessary. (ie, driving through GA with a TX plate WILL get you pulled over at least once, since major drug routs coming up from Mexico all follow the same basic roads)
>>
>>34323626
No idea, I'm not a cop like the one you described, though I do agree that there are cops like that. Really as long as you're being polite with me I'm going to be polite back. Sorry if my answer doesn't apply to what you experienced and I do believe that you experienced it, I can only vouch for the way I do things. If you refuse to consent I would try to convince you to consent but as long as you were being polite I would be polite as well about it and ultimately would not violate the fourth.

Some cops just get worked up about minor things like that, I don't understand it either.
>>

>>
>>34323720

This isn't really correct, though it probably ought to be.

The cops have the right, like it or not, to ask you to step out of a vehicle 'for their own safety' during routine stops. Also, if you've already been stopped, they'll have a reason, and thus all orders become backed up by reasonable suspicion or probable cause.

They can also demand identification, which the 5th does not protect you from. Just an add. there. Loads of fun.

Recruit training in US varies from 4 weeks to 6 months.

When it comes to hours spent on training/academy, your cops spend less time learning than regular security guards do in my country.

So it's your position that Pennsylvania v Mimms didn't base its decision on the fact that the officer had already noticed a "bulge" which created reasonable suspicion sufficient to allow the officer to order Mimms from the vehicle? You have to take into account that the citizen in question might be scared and not thinking rationally. I mean, he is a black man, with a gun, getting pulled over.

People do really irrational and stupid shit when they are scared, feel cornered or are just anxious.

The police officer however did go from verbal commands to magdumping in a couple of seconds. And he is visibly shaken, scared and not in control of the situation, I would not want that kind of a person to pull me over.

I'd rather get pulled over by a professional leo that doesn't shit his pants the moment he senses any sort of supposed threat and empties his magazine into my chest area.

This situation seemed to have all the makings of a police shooting. Dumb black guy who couldn't follow orders and a poorly trained cop that got scared.

>How the fuck does that happen?
>>we dont think you didnt anything wrong but you fucked up big time and you're fired
>What. What the fuck.

Public safety concern. They feel he reacted with fear, and 'fear for your life' is a rational reason to fire.

But they feel he doesn't have the mettle to be a police officer, especially in the current climate of confrontation.

I actually agree. He might not have MURDERED someone, but his inability to manage his own fear shows that he isn't capable of doing the job. I think more forces should follow suit.

Cops can demand ID during a traffic stop, because you are required to identify yourself. Your passengers are not, and if you were on the street you are not. It's only by virtue of there being a traffic stop that ID is required; otherwise there's no general ability of the police to demand ID without reasonable suspicion of a crime.

Why do US police officers take deadly force so lightly?

Half of the shit they pull would result in a prison sentence / kicking off the force in a country like Australia / Any euro country.

firing at suspects that are boxed in and move their car two feet toward an officer.
firing at a suspect fleeing in a car.
firing at a suspect running away.
firing at a suspect with a stick or anything they consider a deadly weapon.

They never seem to have any consideration for the suspects well-being. All thought is put on the safety of the officers, but they'll happily just pump the crook full of holes, handcuff him and let him bleed on the road.

It's really disturbing to see US police in action when you know that the officers would go to jail for acting so recklessly in your own country.

Do they get trained by Israelis or what? What happened to community policing and people skills? Wrestling a suspect to the ground and dragging him to jail?
>>
>>34324245

Because the anon in >>34323821 (don't know if it was you) quoted it in defense of his position that cops can order you out of the car without reasonable suspicion. Not true, unless they can articulate a specific officer safety reason.

That being said, the Court did also say that it could hypothetically be safer just to order someone out of the vehicle so the officer doesn't have to stand too close to oncoming traffic, so the officer safety reason is pretty lax, but the point is the officer does have to be able to articulate something other than "because I just say so." In Pennsylvania v. Mimms, though, the cops saw a noticeable bulge and reasonably suspected the guy was armed and a possible threat.
>>
>>34324435
Nobody fucking cares about your faggot country you loser. You have no idea what ghetto shitholes in the US are like.
>>
>>34324434
I seriously doubt cops increased the murder rate that much, they aren't even charged in 90% of the cases.
>>
>>34324394
Nope. Nowhere in the United States are you required to show ID just because an officer asks for it. There has to be reasonable suspicion that you committed a crime, or a specific exception like a traffic stop that requires the driver to produce ID.

Whether I'm in Alaska or Colorado or Texas or New York, if I'm walking down the street and a cop asks for ID, I can refuse. In order to require ID, he has to have an articulable reasonable suspicion that I have committed a crime, and "suspicious behavior" is pretty well limited by case law to a specific reason that a specific crime has been committed. Not just "you look suspicious" or "taking pictures/being here at night/other lawful activity that might seem out of the ordinary seems sketchy."

>inb4 'oh i have to let the cops just rape me?'
You have to trust that they wont if you're not doing anything wrong. Had you consented to the search they would have had no reason to keep going. If you said 'sure come on in guys want a bottle of snapple? They're in the trunk, ill pop it right now' they would have had a laugh with you and you'd have been on your way.

Denying the search is the same as saying 'i would rather you not because i might be guilty of something'

Stop being a dick head, your case isnt going to the federal court, a local judge is going to look at it, tell you to not be a dick head, and give you a ticket.

When criminals knew they could be randomly stopped and questioned they became less common.

Sorry if you feel like that's infringing on your rights but if you're not doing anything illegal what does it matter. You have a friendly conversation with an officer for 2 minutes and go on your way.

Unless you're a criminal. Are you a criminal anon.
>>
>>34323310
Exactly. Point being, police don't make traffic stops for minor violations for any other real reason than that it might turn into a lottery ticket for them resulting in a drug bust or someone with warrants. So "you've got a broken taillight, here's a warning, get that fixed" becomes the basis for greater intrusion and more opportunity for a cop to "fear for his life" or some asshole with a warrant to decide he ain't going to jail today.

Because the Kyle Dinkheller video has convinced police academies across the nation that the subject of a traffic stop is an enemy combatant.

In reality the lesson they should have learned frof this incident was to respect people and respect their own use of force, because Brannan doesn't decide to kill Dinkheller until after Dinkheller has a ND through Brannon'so windshield, but drawing incorrect conclusions to justify fucking over the regular person seems to be a police talent.

First of all, I didn't "admit to being evasive, not answering questions, and generally ignoring officers."

Second, not consenting to a search is 100% lawful. Just as it's lawful for them to ask. Do I get to start screaming and acting like an ass and interrogating the officer because they asked to search? No, THEN I'd be an idiot. Just like the officer's an idiot if he doesn't take a polite "no" when he does ask.

I don't give a shit about the ticket, it's not like giving consent to search is going to get me out of that anyway. So if the officer escalates it and conducts an illegal search with no probable cause and no consent, he's exposing his department to liability and he's losing credibility with the judge and prosecutor fast.

But from a much more practical perspective, let's say he had zero probable cause and no consent, but orders some guy out of the vehicle and conducted the search anyway. Guess what happens when he finds a kilo of cocaine or a dead body in the trunk? Case dismissed, bad guy walks. All day, e'ery day. And his department gets to explain to the public why a major case couldn't be prosecuted because a cop couldn't do his job within the law.

Yeah, seen this before. why would you use this as a training tool if you didn't want to make your officers fear for their lives every time they make a traffic stop?

I mean, I'm all for having cops be able to protect themselves, but putting so much emphasis on officer safety by training them to treat every person as a possible assailant puts the public at danger, especially if the cops have little to fear when it comes to reprecussions from the use of deadly force.

Going from treating every person like they could kill you to treating them like a "customer" could help.

Finland is a different story. There are multiple instances a year where a person confronts a police with a firerarm or a deadly weapon, most of those situations are diffused without any loss of life.

some suspects are shot in the leg, others tazed or wrestled to the ground. None, have ever been shot full of holes.

This is because when they encounted a situation where deadly force is justified and used, its kept to a minimum in order to save the lives of everyone, including the suspect.

Your average officer will never use his weapon here, since its the last option and things rarely get to that point. If it's needed, it's used with all risks in mind and with care.

They don't jump on the hood of the suspects car and fire 17 rounds from a glock through the windshield or surround a person wielding a knife, fire 20 rounds at him and put handcuffs on the lifeless body. That's not police work, thats incompetent people causing one more unwarranted death.

Drugs are about profit margin, the supply for the corner dealer will go away when the distributor or producer can make more money for less risk legit.

It doesn't matter that the street price of an eighth in Denver has increased 50%, the profit margin for an illicit dealer has take a shit and so that income source has evaporated for the street dealers/gangs.

The mob had to give up running rum and reinvent itself as a smaller organization with less power and less ability to cause mayhem after prohibition ended. This is historical data, and inarguable. The argument against relaxing drug prohibition is only ever a moralizing and accessibility one, and the ease of access now, when that shit is banned, renders those arguments logically toothless, even if they retain their emotional appeal for millions of morons, apparently yourself included.
>The police have special rights over you, im sorry if you don't believe it. Go assault a cop and see what happens
Never said they didn't, what I said was that they didn't deserve those rights and immunities and that those rights and immunities are not a public good.

Learn to read .

Also, it's never against the law to openly record an on-duty police officer in public. You might get assaulted or harassed, but you will not get convicted, this is established case law. Surreptitious recording can get you in trouble in two party consent states.

But again, masturbate using lye for lube and then relax with a methanol cocktail and a bleach chaser.
>>
>>34325144
The main problem I see with ``legalize it'' proponents is that they only ever attack the problem from one angle.
It's true that legalization of illicit substances will probably put the basic low-brow criminal out of work--which is most likely what people are looking for. Large criminal enterprises will probably use their enormous coffers to simply diversify their business and supply whatever else is still illicit--women, firearms, monopolistic legislation, whatever. Then whatever they're supplying is just going to be the next big boogeyman of the decades.

This is the sort of problem I'm talking about. You can talk the ears off of a person trying to realize a pseudo-ancap fantasy where pretty much everything that has a price is legalized and regulated, or you can take the social route.

Supply will obviously collapse when demand falls. Why don't you simply tell people not to take drugs? There's a million angles you can approach this from. Drugs fund criminals. Criminals are the ones holding back Central and Latin American countries. Criminals would not be able to support these regimes without the money from your habit.
Invoke ethnic pride, appeal to emotion, whatever Goebbels-tier propaganda you have to pull to get people to stop doing drugs. I think that if you put actual effort into demonizing drugs as the tools of the thug, you can dramatically reduce demands.
>>
>>34325441
>Why don't you simply tell people not to take drugs?
Because we've tried this, with negative success, for 40 years.

Yes, there are social factors behind drug use (users tend to have shit lives even before they start using, it correlates very strongly with rate of painkiller prescription), etc, but economic attack is proven most effective.
>>
>>34325514
All I've ever seen is "drug ruins lives :DD" from the same handful of groups. They all spout the same crap, some even outright lying. When your propaganda gets tied to lying, you've already failed.
The right way to go when demonizing something is to tell the absolute truth. I've never seen one invoking ethnic pride "Mexico would be great again if you stopped taking drugs". And it would be.

The most important thing about these social programs is that they can be done right now. How long do you think it will be for you to get legislation legalizing meth? Your sons and daughters would be getting their first gray hairs.
