Starett makes some very nice hard punches that you won't bend like the cheap ones from Lyman and such. Or, you could just buy several sets of the absolute cheapest cheese-grade punches from Harbor Freight and just burn through them as they bend and break.

imo punches are more sacrificial than wrenches. Always buy good wrenches and tools, punches you can skimp on as long as you have replacements.

Same advise as drive or center punches; skimp if you must. I use a $9 Harbor Freight roll pin punch set, because roll pins start without much force and it's unlikely the solid punches would get damaged before the thin, hollow spring pins do.

But when you're wailing on a gas block taper pin with powerful strikes, buddy you'd better believe you're gonna bend a Harbor Freight punch, and it's going to go sliding off the mark with a big scratch and a smashed thumb.
