F-35 Performs Flying Display at Paris Air Show 2017

http://breakingdefense.com/2017/06/pilots-say-f-35-superior-within-visual-range-dogfight-criticisms-laid-to-rest/

>You can read what the flight demo is intended to demonstrate on the handout below. But I asked one of the Air Force pilots, Lt. Col. Scott “Cap” Guns, here whether the F-35 would win when fighting close-up with an enemy fighter. His answer was simple: “Without a doubt.” He told reporters at a briefing here that he had gone up against a friend in an F-16 a few months ago. Though the F-35 “performed very well,” he made clear that it hadn’t been dominant. They flew again recently and the F-16 pilot was amazed by the improvement in the F-35’s performance. “What have they done to your jet?” the pilot said, according to Cap. “The difference is we have learned how to fly the jet… and better understand where its advantages are.”

And so the Dunning-Kruger people quietly find a new things to bitch about while learning nothing.

Implying an AF pilot would shit on his brand new plane in public.

I'm not saying he couldn't tell the truth but if the WVR performance was just average you would probably hear the same statement. After all, most pilots wouldn't want to jeopardize their career for being too honest.

Not really, top F-22 pilots were whistle blowers when the US Air Force wanted to suppress news of malfunctioning oxygen systems, they were protected and the military couldn't touch them.
>>
>>34305395
Ugh, it can. In fact it blows everything else flying out of the water.
>>
>>34305403
>they were protected and the military couldn't touch them.

Their careers basically ended with lockmart agents within the ranks of gov't and airforce.
>>
>>34305447
No, they didn't they went on to continue flying. Do you have no idea what whistle blower protection means? Not only that, but once that story (and the one about the crashed F-22 in Alaska) came out, citizens were calling for blood. If there's one thing that even the most power country/company can't ignore, it's pissed off citizens who vote.

Doesn't the F-35 carry more fuel to begin with? That'd mean its 50% is still more and heavier than the 16's.

>Discounting someone with actual experience and expertise because it doesn't follow your preferred narrative just because I said so!!

>>
>>34301273
On the scrapheap.
>>
>>34306120
Yes, the F-35 carries as much fuel internally as the F-16 does with wing tanks. It is a dishonest comparison.
>>
>>34306069
>F-16 with 50% internal fuel
3,500 lb of fuel

>F-35 with 50% internal fuel
9,000 lb of fuel

An F-35 at 50% fuel is still carrying more fuel than an F-16 can at 100%.

Gotta go fast when you've only got 6 minutes to do a routine that's normally spread over 10 minutes, plus why wouldn't you use AB if you're there to show off manoeuvring performance?

Airframe not designed for the stresses of cats and traps, stealth coatings (as opposed to the -35 where it's integral to the skin), no folding wing (vs the -35C), and perhaps most importantly- no budget.
>>
>>34301610
>Iran has nothing to do with it being out of service
Yes it does, they were scrapped rather than mothballed. On the other hand, F-111 were mothballed, and later Aus bought replacement wings from the boneyard. The -14 is gone and won't be coming back.
>>
>>34305640
Except the F-16 almost never flies purely on internal fuel, and there's more to performance than T:W.
Neck yourself.
>>
>>34305640
>according to wikipedia:

According to Wikipedia the F-22's thrust to weight ratio is barely better than one. We know that's a lie because we have testimony from pilots that the thing can pull multiple Gs by accelerating vertically.
>>
>>34305640
>>34308929
>>34309056
Except when you think about it the F-35 can carry 18,000lbs of fuel compared to the F-16's 7,000. Per pound of fuel the 35 has to have significantly more thrust.
>>
>>34309110
That's just basic physics. What aerodynamics does is take those requirements and lets the plane have nearly unmatched transsonic acceleration, where rapid energy gain is most valuable in air combat.
>>
>>34309124
I suppose it looks to me as if the plane is at the very least kinematically sound and Wiki stats on things that require declassified info generally not highly reliable.

>>
>>34309794
$1.5 trillion
>>
>>34309805
Wasn't this the guy trying to explain that the F-16 was well under 400 billion ? Because if he was talking about the F-35 it seems way off. Research and development cost 55 billion or so, total procurement would bring this to 400 billion or so.

If you do the math for the full F-16 program you get insane numbers anyway. Inflation would easily multiply the numbers by 5-10, and if you count maintenance and all, you're easily at multiple times the total F-35 program cost, meaning multiple times 1.5 trillion.
>>
>>34305640

F-35A on 50% fuel is still carrying more fuel than an F-16 at 100%.

>they should be delivering a a jet every 6 or 7 days this year.
